Firm date for Pacquiao-Mayweather fight?

Jun 28, 2010, 4:00 PM EST

According to this tweet from Comcast sports reporter Molly E. Sullivan, the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight of myth and legend is suddenly becoming real; all set for late November in Las Vegas. Sullivan:

Lunch update from my #1 source in Vegas: Pacquio/Mayweather IS happening late Nov… Steve Wynn is building an outdoor venue just for fight.

Remember the days when news like this was reported by TV sports anchors with enormous hair?
Anyway, this fight appears to be on. Who ya got?

When last we left this fun couple, Mayweather’s people were accusing Pacquiao of using steroids, and the Pacquiao camp was threatening to sue Mayweather for defamation. The two couldn’t agree on when and where to conduct pre-fight and after-fight drug testing, and things devolved into both fighters calling each other poo-poo heads.
Since then (around Christmas time of last year), Pacquiao was elected to the Philippines House of Representatives, and then defeated Joshua Clottey for the IBF World Welterweight title. And Mayweather beat Shane Mosley for the WBA World Welterweight title.
The telling numbers were these: Pacquiao got only 700,000 pay per view buys for his fight with Clottey, a relatively small number for a fighter of his stature. Mayweather-Mosely got 1.4 million. So perhaps now Manny is willing to be a little more flexible with the drug testing demands? Maybe.

I won’t believe it unitl I see it. floyd has continuously ducked Manny. floyd needs to be a man because he is not that stupid. He knows for a fact that Manny is not on steroids. That is his smoke screen to hide from Manny. Guess he just doesn’t believe enough in his skills to face the fighter of the decade. Maybe he should be informed that Shane Mosley was on steroids when Vernon Forrest knocked him out. Maybe he should be informed that Fernando Vargas was on steroids when Oscar knocked him out. What is that saying!? Even if Manny were on steroids, (Which we know he isn’t) the guys on steroids are getting knocked out. floyd knew for a fact, that Shane had a history of using PED’s, yet he agreed to fight him. He knows for a fact that Manny was never known to use PED’s, yet he is afraid of him and accuses him of using. floyd uses a numbing substance on his hands to keep the pain at a minimum. Isn’t that cheating? He wants to have every advantage and at the same time, make sure his opponents are completely clean and are on the up and up. My God, Manny is smaller than floyd, isn’t that enough advantage for him. MAN up floyd.

Really? Steve Wynn is gonna construct this venue in 4 and a half months? Yeah right, why would they agree to fight outside when the temp could be in the lower 40′s?? Never gonna happen

@Wesley, I agree with you 100%. Floyd got me wondering so much, he has all the advantages such as, height, reach, weight etc. and now he is asking for heavy gloves, fight location like in vegas, more blood for Manny, more money and I think he is asking for the world to be given to him. Is he really man enough to fight with Manny or is he girlie-man?

This writer is a Mayweather fan. I do not beleive Floyd is going to fight Manny Pacquiao. It’s impossible, Mayweather is a coward and would never fight Pacquiao because he knows that Pacquiao is going to destroy Floyd inside the ring. Mayweather is destined to be known as the greatest coward boxer of all time.

I’m tired of the talk and excuses Mayweather Jr. makes on ducking Pacquiao. Just sign the contract & make the mega fight happen! Critics will finally shut up so we can finally know the truth who the real p4p king is today. Be a man (Mayweather Jr.) and fight Pacquiao!

Just because a person is not known to use PED’s, doesn’t mean he’s not using them. We all thought Marion Jones, Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones, Fernando Vargas, Shane Mosley, Tommy Morrision, Alex Rodriquez, Roger Clemens, etc,… were clean athletes.
Boy were we wrong. If Manny is not doing and PED’s, he should prove all doubters wrong by taking “random” blood and urine testing. In a court it’s INNOCENT TIL PROVEN GUILTY, but in the court of Public Opinion, it’s the opposite.
The only way for Manny Pacquiao to prove he is a clean athlete is to take the “random” USADA style Olympic testing plain and simple.
I can’t wait to see the fight, I would like to see how Mayweather breaks down Manny. I guarantee you that if Manny tries to throw a million punches and land only 20% of them, Like he did against Clottey, he’s gonna get knocked out.
Out of 1200 punches, he barely landed 200 punches to a guy that bascially stood in front of him. Mayweather has all the defensive and offensive skills to offset in-accurate offense.
Pacquiao’s defense is his offense, but the only boxing genius that Pacquiao has fought in his ENTIRE CAREER was Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny really got his ass beat. Mayweather is 10 times better than Marquez and Mayweather totally dominated Marquez.
This will be an easy $50 million for Mayweather. Like taking candy from a baby.

you’re the who’s trippin, why do you point out that manny needed time to get off the Juice whereas mayweather fights only once a year? isn’t that suspucious as well? mayweather needs the time to cycle out whatever he has in him for him not to get caught

  11. pacfan - Jun 28, 2010 at 7:48 PM

OK got you, Pacman will gonna get beat, so why is chicken floyd scared to fight him. It does not make sense. wake up bro.

  12. Mike - Jun 28, 2010 at 8:04 PM

Mayweather wins in 8 rounds or less.

  13. John - Jun 28, 2010 at 8:14 PM

Did you ever go to school? Were you ever taught by your parents what’s wrong or what’s right? By the way, do you have parents? If you are a bastard or a blind follower of the wise but coward Floyd, it would really make sense. There is no sense to argue with you. Have a nice day

  14. BLIRIO - Jun 28, 2010 at 8:21 PM

hey, Pacman may have a hardtime with marquez fight because of his balooning weigth. In welterweight, marquez should get funeral services.

  15. kbb - Jun 28, 2010 at 8:35 PM

Hey aka Wesley, whens the last time one of Floyds opponents had to visit the emergency room after a fight. Hell, Ricky Hatton didn’t even have to go, the ringside doctor determined that he was more exhausted than anything else. He was so tired of chasing floyd by the 10th round that he could hardly stand up anymore.
Yeah right , Floyd couldn’t even knock out Marquez with a 20 pound weight advantage. He hit Mosely with everything he had and didn’t even stagger him.
You dumb@#$ass, Pacquiao will walk right through his best shots. He might win on points, but he aint gonna knock him out!!!
You little chatterboxes who repeat this steroid nonsense are like little gossiping bitch$%s. i hope one day your arrested for something you didn’t do and the police come to the conclusion that you are guilty until you prove your innocent.

Molly is a sports reporter for Comcast and Big Ten Network (www.twitter.com/mollyesullivan — i think). She has strong ties to the Las Vegas Community and also got second place to Erin Andrews in Playboy’s Sexiest Sportscaster of the Year award in 2009 and 2010. As for the fight–I still won’t believe it until I see it.

    Yeah …..orange juice!!!!

  18. rickmeister - Jun 28, 2010 at 8:49 PM

Money May is the biggest pussy of all time. He’s got so many damn demands and still demanding. He had his daddy and uncle concoct this idiotic blood crap so he can duck another good fighter. Even his own daddy said that he doesn’t want lil Floyd fighting Manny. All this posturing crap and slanderous remarks from the Mayweather crime family will lead to nowhere. Show the evidence lil Floyd so the world knows that Manny is not clean. ” If you aint got shit then shut yo mouth and get in the ring you pussy ass coward!!!!”

  19. jericho - Jun 28, 2010 at 8:49 PM

Mayweather is the greatest coward-ducker fighter of all time.. no one can beat that!!

  20. pendejitos - Jun 28, 2010 at 8:50 PM

    It will never be materialized.
PBF has a lot to complain and to resort to .
He knows he will be dead once he face the pacman…. PERIOD.

  21. to SmoovOne - Jun 28, 2010 at 9:01 PM

ei dude..Just because a person is not known to use PED’s, doesn’t mean he’s not using them.. but it’s more logical that he’s not on peds too right..and why would pacman submit to gayweather’s demands? always remember that the burden of truth is always at the accuser not the other way around..for God’s sake, please floyd sign the contract.. don’t give me that level playing field crap..you should say that to marquez when you fought him with height and reach advantage, and coming to the fight overweight…

  22. Abenir - Jun 28, 2010 at 9:03 PM

To see is to believe… with all those posturing and the ego’s of these two fighters we could not make anymore comments rather than if we see that the two of them have indeed signed the contracts.
The people of both camps were also making lies and lies… from Oscar dela Hoya, to Bob Arum, to Richard Schaefer, to Leonard Ellerbe, to Floyd Mayweather, Sr., to Roger Mayweather, to Jeff Mayweather.. and even Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is a cheater (he did cheated Juan Manuel Marquez in the scales and used his illegal elbow against Shane Mosley).. and so with Manny Pacquiao who had been irritatingly posturing during the first negotiation salvo and in the end he did consented on the blood testing that Floyd had demanded.
We are still Hopeful that these fight will happen.

  23. dragoner - Jun 28, 2010 at 9:06 PM

Here is my opinion on drug testing demanded by Mayweathers:
Sounds like the truth is out there and all we need to do is look a little harder!
But how do we prove that bigfoot hibernates or there is a scratch below the right eye of the Lochness monster?
The demand for blood testing may just be a politically correct ploy to which many have subscribed, but the real reason may be to weaken Pacquiao.
How can we test for a mythical drug (A-side meth?) if we do not know it? Drugs cannot be found if they don’t exist no matter how much testing you do. The Mayweathers may just be letting everyone in on a wild goose chase.
Test for “it” every second – it will not matter a bit. In fact, not a drop of blood is needed to catch an imaginary drug. The court of public opinion has already found him guilty. But aha, vials and vials are needed to test for those PEDs that are already known. This is the trick.
Not to worry if results are negative. In the process, the real?? objective is achieved: Weakening Pacquiao.
The problem with ‘random’ testing to be carried out by USADA (which is identified with Golden Boy productions/Mayweather) is that, without tangible proof (as is usually the case), Pacquiao may be tested a lot more frequently on the basis of suspicions, hunches or hearsays alone. Sounds like judges+jury+witness+prosecution all rolled into one.
But why should Pacquiao lose a fight, just to please people who may be envious of his accomplishments in the first place?

  24. Colin - Jun 28, 2010 at 9:15 PM

Pacquiao-Clottey was for the WBO title and the Mayweather-Mosley fight was a non-title affair because Floyd wouldn’t pay the sanctioning fee (good man!). If you can’t get that right, why should we think anything else in this story is correct?

  25. ron_flor - Jun 28, 2010 at 9:18 PM

really? then how do you justify floyd of asking all the advantages in the world, when he has already had these advantages?he has the height, the reach, the weight, the money and all; you name them. is it not a sign of being a coward? you have already stated that pacquiao had not had any record of juicing and yet you are still putting him in the @ss of those cheaters you’ve mentioned. were not all of them americans? therefor, it just means that american athletes are capable of juicing because of their advancement in technolgy as well as performance enhancement. philippines? no i don’t think so. we barely even have three times a day to eat. it means that all of pacquiao’s achievements are from solely hardwork and not from that stupid idea from a stupid drugdealer, women beater, floyd senior, who was idolized and believed by majority of americans. what a pathetic imbecile.
