This sort of minor league promotion would never fly in the Bible Belt…

Jun 26, 2010, 10:30 AM EDT

Cro-Magnon Face.JPG…for obvious reasons which are forthcoming.
The Mike Veeck and Bill Murray-owned St. Paul Saints, who have become legendary for their promotions and gimmicks, from a nun who give massages at home games, a Michael Vick dog chew toy giveaway and a mascot, Mudonna, who channels Andy Kaufman, the team clearly understands that to compete as a minor league team in a region that all four major professional leagues call home, you have to be willing to be a little offbeat.
And the Saints have outdone themselves once again with this one: on July 7th, the team will put on one of the more bizarre bobblehead giveaways: “a spinning Cro-Magnon/Charles Darwin dual-head bobblehead to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin’s On the Origin of Species.”
What an evolutionary concept. I mean revolutionary concept. The Cro-Magnon Man side is above, and as you can see, the words circling the base are “Can’t we all just get along.” Touche, Cro Magnon Man. Touche. Your primitive mind may not be able to understand the more complex aspects of our world, but your wisdom is timeless.
The visage of Charles Darwin can be seen after the jump.

From Ballpark Digest:

“There may be no bigger debate than this,” said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Derek Sharrer. “No matter which side of the debate you fall this giveaway item is for you. The happy medium, for one night, is fun.”

The Saints are going to try to do their very best not to flame the fires of one of the world’s great controversies, but it’s anyone’s guess how well that will go. At least they have a nun on hand to massage any bruised egos, right?

I love it! But then again I’m a northerner, a Minnesotan and NYC native who has some flexibility in the way i think. On the other hand, i did do two years of college in Tennessee, don’t ask me why, and those folks would never tolerate such open-minded hilarious promotions. Let’s go Saints!!
