Sacrebleu: drink up the despair of these French World Cup fans in this video

Speaking of Euro squads struggling mightily in the World Cup, not only is all of England reeling from their team’s failures, all we have to do is take a Chunnel ride under the English Channel and make a stopover in France. In fact, France may be in even worse shape than England. After playing to a draw with Uruguay in their first match of Group A action, the French were owned by Mexico, losing 2-0 on last Thursday. Even worse, during their Mexican epic fail, forward Nicolas Anelka tore into coach Raymond Domenech during halftime, an unwise move that caused the French team to unceremoniously send home the disgruntled player.
But all that is mostly academic. What really sums the French Situation all up is how despondent these two French fans look during their appearance in a French news report. I do not speak a lick of French, but the sadness and torment these poor souls are experiencing solely due to the miraculous failures of their beloved national team is palatable. If there ever was a time for some Francophone pop star to do a cover version of the Robert John 1979 classic “Sad Eyes,” that moment is now. Sigh.
