Kind of a shock: Tiger Woods not sole favorite going into U.S. Open

Because you’re a desperate, abject gambling addict (it’s time you faced facts), this will be of interest: Tiger Woods, for the first time in quite a while, is not the sole favorite going into a major tourney. Sharing the throne for the U.S. Open is Phil Mickelson, according to the wagering website Bodog.com. Both are installed at 7-1; the first time, says Bodog, that Woods has not been the sole favorite with them going into a major since he’s “been in his prime.” While Woods was still the slight favorite at a couple of sites, most have him in a dead heat with Mickelson, with Lee Westwood close by.
“I am not sure of the exact number, but as long as I have been taking care of golf odds I cannot remember Tiger not being favored in a major event since he has been in his prime,” Bodog sports book manager Richard Gardner said. “The way he has been playing lately I am not at all surprised that he is not a clear favorite in this tournament, and it would really be something if he could win it all. Our bettors seem to agree as Phil Mickelson at is a very popular bet right now.”
