The dance, she is over: ESPN Zone will close its restaurants in Chicago, Baltimore, New York, Las Vegas and Washington, D.C., by June 16, because of poor financial results. Remaining open will be the Los Angeles and Anaheim outlets, which are tied to Disney properties. This is a tough time for the retail business because of the economy, and ESPN Zone, IMO, was hurt because it has always been perceived as a tourist attraction, and not a neighborhood hangout. With the exception of big events (Chicago’s ESPN Zone was packed for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup playoffs Wednesday night), it was never a place you’d expect to find Bill Swerski’s Superfans. Plus, didn’t ESPN pretty much change us from a culture that went to a sports bar to catch the scores into one that stayed home and watched ESPN?
Oh Porterhouse, look at the wax build up on these shoes. I want that wax stripped off there, then I want them creamed and buffed with a fine chamois, and I want them Thursday. Chop chop.
ABOUT LAST NIGHT
What you missed while hoping that William Shatner would save the wild salmon …
* OK so it’s unanimous, no one likes Jordan’s mustache.
* Good news, men: Serena Williams is back on the market.
* Celtics minority owner gets in yelling match with David Stern over officiating. Awesome.
