Wednesday Blogdome: Paintball and The Wire, together at last
Jun 9, 2010, 5:00 PM EDT
* Paintball with ‘The Wire’? Yes Please. Jamie Hector, the actor best known as cold-blooded crime lord Marlo Stanfield in The Wire, will host a paintball tournament this weekend to raise money for Moving Mountains, a non-profit organization founded by Hector and dedicated to the creative development of inner-city kids. But here’s the awesome part (besides, uh, helping children): he got some of his cohorts from “The Wire” to participate. [Warming Glow]
* Charles Barkley says what we’re all thinking about MJ’s mustache. “When I am shooting the Taco Bell commercial they have got this little woman making sure that every cinnamon twist and every piece of cheese is in order and now they let my man get on TV with that terrible mustache. I was totally in shock and just, I just can’t believe that. That is really not good at all.” As usual, Chuck is right and hilarious. That really is a terrible mustache. And when you consider that Jordan’s made a few appearances on the cover of America’s premier men’s style magazine, this mistake is even more galling. [Ball Don't Lie]
* Children’s Charity Sued By Daly In $100M Claim. The Palm Beach Post reports today that John Daly is suing beneficiaries of the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic in Palm Beach (FL) County court for $100 million because of an injury suffered during the tournament in 2007. [SportsbyBrooks]
* Brooke Hundley Sues ESPN, Seeks Award Of Good Looks As Compensation For Damages. Everybody’s favorite frumpy production assistant/secret-lover-of-failed-major-league-baseball-GM-turned-self-debating-baseball-analyst a/k/a Steve Phillips has filed a lawsuit against ESPN for wrongful termination and defamation. * I Was There: The Stephen Strasburg Debut In Three Acts. My section tonight was probably a quarter Pirates fans, most of them, I’m assuming like me, had purchased tickets to see their favorite team long before it was announced as the coronation of Stephen Strasburg. Only this time there wasn’t the moxie and high-fiving that usually comes with running into your compatriots in an opposing venue. Instead there was mostly self-deprecation mixed with a little bemusement over the excitement of the Nationals fans, and some impending doom about how our team might be embarrassed. [Bugs & Cranks]
* Google Earth Wows With 3D Tour of Every World Cup Stadium. Google is showcasing their awesome power once again with a kick-ass virtual tour of South Africa’s soccer stadiums, rendered in 3D. Really the video is just the tip of the iceberg; the sheer scale of these stadiums boggles the mind. [Brobible]
* Also: “Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to exit the donut!” … the Marco Scutaro Song will haunt your dreams. … Today in Mexican Wrestling Dos and Don’ts.
