Rotoinfo has a Q&A with Jose Canseco up today, which looks like one of those e-mail interview deals, but is quite entertaining. Among other things, Canseco denies he ever slept with Madonna, reveals that he has a 210 bowling average, and says that the winner of “Spend a Day With Jose Canseco” can go with him to the movies. (Sex and the City 2? Prince of Persia?). But here’s my favorite part:
ROTOINFO: Do you ever see yourself coaching at some point in your future, and in what role?
JOSE CANSECO: I see myself in the future managing a team. I would love to start as a hitting instructor or a first base or third base coach and eventually when this whole steroid era blows over become a manager of a Major League Baseball organization.
Your move, Seattle Mariners.

What’s he gonna do? Show players how to bounce a ball of their heads for an opposing homerun?

Hey, Jose —– ZERO CHANCE, pal. While you did display a degree of success in the Big Show, you got there on natural ability. That lone skill rarely translates into communicating with young, impressionable future major leagurers. The highest level you may EVER reach is minor league hitting instructor. If you actually really want to help youngsters, buy a minor league franchise and develop the players by giving them opportunities to learn and hopefully, excel. GOOD LUCK, bash brother !

Jose, ARE YOU ON DRUGS? Oh, wait, you already admitted that. You must really have no memory and no clue how real ball players feel about you. You outed everybody you knew with the secrets you had, and all for the personal need to be in the spotlight. You appear to have told the truth, but no one will ever trust you or confide in you ever again. What owner would hire a “RAT” to lead his organization? you shot yourself in the foot while your foot was in your mouth. Hope the book sold because when it comes to Baseball, “Strike Three, You’re out!!”

I don’t think he should, but look at Mark McGwire. He’s working for major league baseball.

He is the perfect guy to manage a club. He could be the object lesson of what exactly not to do with your baseball career and natural talents.

Out of all the people involved in the steroid era, only Jose was brave enough to lay this out. MLB and baseball fans everywhere owe him a debt of gratitude, history will look favourable on him. This coming from a guy who had his heart broken by him the 89 championship series.

Say what you want about Jose, the guy was a fantastic player in his prime. More importantly, he was dead on accurate when it came to the problem of steroids in baseball. He made us look at the facts we didn’t want to see. In 50 years, we will look at this guy the way We look at Curt Flood.

No way, Jose! Initially, I thought this was a joke and still consider it one. A dry gulch ambusher like Jose will only manage a MLB team once Daryl Strawberry buys one. The idea of him managing is humorous at best.
