Grumpy old man Phil Mushnick has had his fill of that floozy Erin Andrews
May 23, 2010, 11:30 AM EDT
When you want hard-hitting, crabby ass journalism from an old coot with an onion tied to his belt, look no further than the New York Post’s Phil Mushnick. When he is not yelling at younger, more attractive journalists to get off his metaphorical lawn, every once in a while he enjoys taking other sports media outlets to task for presenting an employee as a serious journalist when, in his opinion, said employee is simply a booty-shaking attention whore.
Below are Mushnick’s thoughts regarding ESPN’s handling of the Erin Andrews Situation:
In the days following the appearance of those surreptitious hotel room videos, ESPN aggressively characterized Erin Andrews as a serious broadcast journalist who was a sexually objectified victim of a horrible crime. Then came that GQ photo spread, then “Dancing With the Stars.”
Ya think, if ESPN knew what was coming, it would have left out the “serious journalist” part?
How dare Erin Andrews try to piece her life back together after becoming a victim of a serious crime by doing something as sinister as – GASP – taking part in a photo shoot with a well-respected periodical and then participating in a silly, yet harmless, dancing reality show? And how dare ESPN attempt to characterize a talented, intelligent and capable woman as a “serious journalist” despite the fact that she happens to be attractive and has the desire to pursue other interests outside the world of sports? I’m sorry, but neither of the things Mushnick mentions compromise Erin Andrews’ professional integrity one bit.
What a jerk.

Reishia Candidate is both hotter than Erin Andrews, and an excellent, top-notch sports reporter ( unlike the cheerleader fraud Andrews) who made her bones in the New York nightly news sport market, I think Fox-5, if I remember correctly.

Erin Andrews is probably thrilled that she got more ink.

I hope somebody films his wife or daughter naked, then posts video on the Internet. OK, maybe granddaughter. With a bag over her head.

I totally agree!! Nobody cares about her…she’s a terrible reporter. Only eye candy for guys, and really not that attractive. Who would miss her if she stopped talking???

Journalist? Please. Does anyone ever look to her for a comment, insight, analysis, etc. except as a sideline reporter? She’s strictly there for her looks and everyone knows it.
Yes, the peephole incident was disgusting and wrong, but she’s played it to her advantage. She certainly didn’t have to do much to “piece her life back together.”
Mushnick’s right on this one.

Mushnic is a jerk and so are the people claiming Andrews had to “work 10 harder than any man” crap… good looking women have more doors open to then and for them than any other species on the planet… so cut the stupidity. Doing a soft porn spread for GQ isnt going to allow anyone to take you seriously… just ask Burt Reynolds how he was perceived after his 70′s Cosmo pic spread. It cost him an Oscar for Deliverance.

I don’t know this Phil Mushbreath from anybody, but he is right. Erin Andrews is just a broad with a body that they put up there. If it wasn’t for the incident were she was videotaped naked in her hotel and her playing that up BIG to the media with all her crying and weeping and indignant humiliation, no one would have ever heard of her or known who she was. She did everything she could do to publicize that incident.
She IS an attention whore and she far from being a “journalist”. Glad to see someone have the guts to actually say it. She is “Wanda the Weather Bunny”, but delivering the sports, not the weather.

I won’t comment directly but I will agree with a lot of the comments here. Until Ms. Andrews does any actual sports show of any sort, news, inside story, SPORTCENTER, play-by-play, color, anything other than asking what went wrong in the first half and what will you do to fix it in the second half she is who she is. Fluff and only fluff.
I guess working 10 times harder means sending out more pictures than normal.
The part that I don’t get, how many people watch a sporting event just to see the sideline reporter? If it is more than I think get a dwarf to interview at NBA games, now that’s comedy.

Also, if Mushnick cared so much about how women’s looks play a role in their jobs he would also call out the women who work for Fox Sports and Fox News. That won’t really happen as long as he’s obsessed with bashing ESPN by any means necessary.

My only regret is that when Richard Todd pummelled Mushnick inot a locker at Shea Stadium many years ago he didn’t finish the job.

She made her name flirting with baseball players. Mushnick is not that far off base. Other women reporters in the business were mortified at her conduct. She’s a floozy.

Ah all the females hating on her is sad. Most of whom act like they are men but you can see right through it. I feel bad for the girl because most people want to look at a gorgeous person then tear them down? So you want a 300 pound, cheetos eatin chich talkin about sports do you? It would make you feel more attractive huh?!! Erin is good at her job, her father won six emmys as a reporter himself! She grew up around it and she is great at conversation and the coaches/players love her and not just because of the way she looks. I am an atttractive female who wants to be a sports journalist and its sad because its hard to get where she is at! Most people think because your attractive (much less gorgeous like she is) you have this free ride. Its really just free hate because less attractive people b*tch and moan constantly. YOU CAN BE GOOD AT YOUR JOB, TALENTED AND GORGEOUS. Get over it people and i applaud Erin for being great at her job! Just becuase more people don’t look like her doesn’t mean anything she is/has done is wrong. Don’t hate the playa hate the game

She had to work 10 times harder huh? Give me a break. Do you think if she looked like ugly betty she’d be on the sidelines? Please. Tight pants and a low cut blouse and some que cards can put you on TV every time.

For the folks that say she isn’t a “serious” journalist, here ya go!
In 2000, Andrews began work as a freelance reporter with FSN Florida. In 2001 she moved on to the Sunshine Network, serving as a Tampa Bay Lightning reporter. In 2002 she served as a studio host and part-time reporter for Turner Sports, covering the Atlanta Braves and college football for TBS and the Atlanta Thrashers and Hawks for Turner South.
In May 2004, she became a reporter for ESPN’s National Hockey League coverage. Since then, she has served as sideline reporter for their college football Saturday telecast as well as their Saturday Primetime and Big Ten college basketball coverage. In 2005, her job expanded to include Major League Baseball sideline reporting. She also reports on Great Outdoor Games, men’s college baseball, and the College World Series.
