Permian HS forfeits all its wins due to 22-year-old hoops imposter

Permian High School of Texas is forfeiting all of their wins this season … but don’t have a heart attack, Friday Night Lights fans. We’re referring to the basketball team, not the football squad. Permian first drew national attention from the nonfiction book by Buzz Bissinger, Friday Night Lights, and later the movie and TV series. Now the school is in the spotlight again, but for more infamous reasons. That would be Jerry Joseph, the 16-year-old Haitian orphan who led the team to a 16-14 record this season and a spot in the playoffs. But the sophomore phenom really turned out to be Guerdwich Montimer, a 22-year-old from Florida who was trying to relive his high school days and get a stronger foothold on a college basketball career. Because of the deception, the District 2-5A Executive Committee agreed to accept the school’s self-imposed sanctions, which means they forfeit all of their wins.
Montimer, as Joseph, also loses the team’s newcomer of the year award. Oh, and forget about Homecoming King, dude.
But that’s the least of Montimer’s worries right now. He’s still in jail on a $50,000 bond, facing multiple charges including falsifying government documents and sexual assault. Montimer was reliving the dream all the way, allegedly; a 15-year-old girl said that she had sex with him last year, thinking that he was also 15. In reality he was 22.
