Amar'e Stoudemire's mom did not have a good weekend

May 19, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT

How could this happen so close to Mother’s Day? Another NBA mom in the news, this time for, well, what do you call it when you’re arrested for driving without an ignition interlock device on your vehicle? Amar’e Stoudemire’s mom, Carrie Mae Stoudemire, 54, was arrested in Scottsdale on Saturday after her Lincoln Navigator was seen “straddling two lanes and going 60 mph,” according to the Scottsdale police report. Her eyes were “watery and glassy,” according to the officer. She refused a field sobriety test, and there you have it. Mugshot city. I can relate, because every Sunday morning it’s the same old thing for me: Wake up. Feed parrot. Check phone messages. Bail mom out of jail …

From the Arizona Republic:

A few minutes later, according to the report, Amar’e Stoudemire and another man arrived at the scene in a Bentley convertible.

Carrie Stoudemire began to yell “Amar’e!” several times and asked for a lawyer, the police report said.

The officer asked Amar’e Stoudemire and the other man to leave “because they were causing Carrie to act out.”

Carrie Stoudemire was booked into the Scottsdale jail and later released. She is charged with speeding, operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device and failure to drive in a single lane, police said.

No Tina Turner comments are being accepted at this time.
You may think that this is bad timing for Amar’e and the Suns, but perhaps this will incite him to play better defense in Game 2. Or, you know, any defense at all. Sorry, that could be considered as piling on. I take it all back.
