Terror stalks the halls: Horny middle school soccer team now in big trouble

May 17, 2010, 4:00 PM EDT

The Principal and two coaches have resigned at East Middle School (Biscoe, N.C.) after a series of hazing incidents involving more than 100 counts and 14 students. Oh, the humanity. Actual details of the hazing were scarce, until I dug up this account in the Montgomery Herald. Enjoy:

The incidents happened at a number of different places including bathrooms, locker rooms and the school activity bus. All of the students charged were members of the soccer team. The incidents reportedly involved several male students at a time ganging up on a single male student, yelling “fresh meat” and while the student was held against a locker or on the ground, the perpetrator would hunch the boy from behind. There was no skin to skin contact.

And so we see why the East Middle School mascot is a knight. Impossible to “hunch” someone when they’re wearing a suit of armor.

From the Montgomery Herald, which, by God, got to the bottom of this story when the other, bigger news outlets shied away:

East Middle School Principal Vivacious Crews was charged late Thursday afternoon with failure to report assaults of a sexual nature immediately to law enforcement officers.

It is unclear exactly how long these incidents have been going on, but at least one high school student told investigators this was nothing new, that it was occurring when he was at the school. The incidents are not believed to be racial or gang related.

The charge against Crews stems from an investigation by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office over the past few weeks at the school involving assaults and sexual battery incidents against 14 students. A total of 12 students have been charged through the juvenile court in regards to these incidents. The students range in age from 13 to 15.

But here’s what confuses me: All of the alleged perpetrators are members of the soccer team? In what world are soccer players the hazers, and not the hazees? What has happened to the middle school bully pecking order? Nothing makes sense anymore.

They were all Hispanic members of the soccer team. And allegations indicated that much more than “hunching” occurred, actual rape. My family is removing my younger relatives from East Middle School and transferring them elsewhere. All forms of bullying occur here, unchecked by administration, including bullying done to younger members of my family. Ironically, East Middle School called up many business owners in the area this morning to raise money for their Athletic teams. We do not want our names affiliated with the school, at all. Unfortunately due to undercoverage of the issue, I’m sure many parents and business owners will unknowingly give to their cause. To the readers out there- don’t support them until they change their tune and come clean about what really went on.
