You are undoubtedly already aware of the tired practice when mayors of cities (or, on other occasions, governors of states) who are facing each other in the playoffs make a ridiculous bet regarding the outcome? More often than not, the items wagered consist of foods that each respective locale is known for – the Boston mayor wagers clam chowder, New York – Nathan’s Famous hot dogs, and so on and so forth.
With the Sharks set to take on the Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals, Chicago mayor Mayor Richard Daley and San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed each selected delectable items which are synonymous with their city. Daley has offered up several items, including Robinson’s Ribs and Vienna Beef, two tasty treats synonymous with Chicago. Reed, not to be outdone, has offered up some mouth-watering items as well, and taking center stage in his wager is none other than San Jose’s famous…
Eggo Waffles.
Eggos? As in, “Leggo My Eggo”? That’s weaksauce, man.Apparently, Eggo waffles are one of the chief exports of San Jose, but still.
Said Mayor Reed: “We’re looking forward to sampling the best that Chicago has to offer.”
Indeed you will, sir, if the Sharks are victorious. On the other hand, if the Blackhawks win, Mayor Daley will be able to feast upon frozen waffles he could have just as easily picked up at the nearest convenience store. Yeesh.
