Eric Byrnes' first beer league softball homer thrills dozens

May 14, 2010, 5:00 PM EDT

Eric Byrnes hit his first home run for his new team team on Wednesday night, a towering, first-pitch drive to left against a former youth coach who passed him over in the Little League draft when he was 9 years old (this is true). Once again proving that revenge is best served cold (with a burger and fries). Byrnes, late of the Seattle Mariners, now plays softball for The Dutch Goose, a sawdust-on-the-floor beer and burger joint in Menlo Park, CA, which is next to his home town of Portola Valley. By all accounts, he seems happy. The SF Chronicle’s Scott Ostler was at the game.

Second time up Wednesday, two men on. Home run, left field. Final: Goose 6, Vintage 2. Break up the Goose.

I don’t know which is more pathetic: Byrnes spoiling some softball league game, or this story being reported. Oh well, I still like the bit about him riding a bike. WHAT’S WRONG WITH A BICYCLE?!

Snore you are a sad human, with a small charcoal briquette for a soul.
