Cleveland celebrities gather for heartrending 'We Are LeBron' tribute video
May 14, 2010, 12:00 PM EDT
The worst part of getting dumped is always the inevitable groveling, which is the phase the City of Cleveland is going through right now. The difference is, while your drunken, weepy phone call to your ex will go largely unnoticed by the general public, Cleveland’s pain is now on display for all the word to see, in video form. Sad, really. Poor dopes.
Just as We Are the World completely ended world hunger, this video — We Are LeBron — will ultimately convince the NBA superstar to forgo New York (or wherever) and stay in Sixth City. On May 3, a dizzying array of local Cleveland talent gathered to record the video, including NASL great Otto Orf, and the great Carl Monday!
Sample lyrics: Just tell us King, what changes we must make, We’ll rename every street ‘LeBron’ if that’s what it takes….
Now, that’s groveling.
Video following the jump.

Break Media’s Mike Polk, a lifelong Cavs fan and creator of The Cleveland Tourism videos, is responsible for the creation, actually a pretty good parody in my opinion. Plus, a great comment on the celebrity lineup by the publicity spokesperson who sent me the video:
“We’re pretty excited about it, but sad that Betty White, who planned to be there, couldn’t make it due to her superstardom.”

tedwilliamshead.com destroys this awful song. My favorite line, “if AIDS had a sound, it would sound like the “We Are LeBron song” haha!

Just goes to show you how short sided people are. Yes Cleveland, LeBron failed to deliver on the expectation that you would be playing for a championship. He did not play his best games when the series against Boston mattered the most, and yes, his response to the press may not have been what you would have expected from an experienced NBA player (although he is not even 26 and doesn’t even have a couple years of college experience under his belt to help with situations like this).
So yes, you all should chastize this guy, boo him out of Cleveland, let him know that he failed you all when you most needed him to shine. Kick his “fan disappointing” as$ out of town. I am sure the Cavs will be better without this guy, right? The rest of the team is certainly staffed to win at least 15 to 20 games next year without King James leading the charge.
Good call Cleveland. Way to turn on the only thing you have going for you in professional sports, and return your basketball team into the perennial loser that that they were before LeBron arrived. Back to routing for the Toleda Mud Hens, as your Cavs will return to putting five thousand fans in the seats again every night. Great call.
Go Mud Hens

What makes me the saddest is not that LeBron won’t be in a Cav uniform next year…it’s knowing that I’ll have to wait at least 6 more long months before I’ll get to see The King readjusting and hanging his mouthpiece out of his mouth 20 milion times per game. Talk about withdrawals…………………………
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…..

Absolutely unbelievable – totally pathetic. Grovel with capital letters, neon lights, megaphones, and a dancing choir. Beyond imagination.

Absolutley the most pathetic thing I’ve ever seen. Very sad indeed that a city’s survival is so dependent on a professional athlete. Call me spoiled for being from the NYC area but you would never see such a plea for a sports star to stay in New York. This reaks of desparation and being a Bulls fan I hope LeBron joins us next year after seeing this video and how retarded Cleveland is.

I think what many of the previous commentators fail to realize is that this song/video is only half serious. It’s tongue-in-cheek and meant to entertain, not seriously sway LeBron. If you don’t agree, please check out Mike Polk’s other Cleveland related videos on you tube. In fact, even if you do agree with me you should check them out. They’re hilarious.

And while we’re at it, Cleveland sports fans are not pathetic and the city will not burn to the ground if LeBron leaves. We lost our whole football team in ’95, I think we can handle losing one man (no offense LBJ). As we say in the land – There’s always next year.

I guess it’s just me…but I think this is absolutely brilliant. They’ve expressed the hopes of almost every basketball fan in Cleveland, in song. Yeah, they’re terrible singers, but man…their hearts are in the right place. And I say this as a Bulls fan who’s hoping he decides on Chi-Town.
Maybe “Cleveland Rocks” would be overstating it–but nice job, guys.

WOW…where to start…..massive FAIL first of all….second this has got to be the corniest piece of crap ever made!…simply pathetic!….if you have to put the names under your “we are the world parody” it’s just sad. No recognizable celebrities?…oh that’s right they’ve all moved! Lebron is an over-hyped creation by the media who can’t stand to admit who the real heir apparent to Jordan and the Bulls is, which is Kobe and the Lakers. 4 rings….81 points in a game. Well then again Lebron could also someday get 81…….turnovers that is.

How’s this song Cleveland? Lebron will be hearing it every night, and you Cleveland fans will be hearing it in your nightmares…
New York, New York
Frank Sinatra
Start spreading the news
I’m leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I’m king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you, New York, New York.
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I’m king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you, New York, New York.
Yes Sir, Lebron is going to look great in his brand new, NY Knicks uniform, and joining him will probably be Dwight Howard & Dwayne Wade It will be the beginning of a very long freindship that could only be had in the Greatest City in the World, and the only one where Lebron and his soon to be NBA Champs, the NY Knicks could have a Ticker Tape Parade down the legndary Canyon of Heroes….Lebron and his NY Knicks will be joining Derek Jeter & The Legendary New York Yankees in having their names ring out down that Legendary Blvd. Lebron is smart, he knows he could make more money in endorsements in one year, than Cleveland could pay him in ten years!!! After all, there’s only ONE Madison Ave, where Lebron and his family’s Dreams could come true!!! Now, Cleveland fans, just sit back, and watch how it’s suppose to be done!!! Hehehe!!!

I know this isn’t a sports website but I have to point out how ignorant the NY fans are.
1.) Lets say LeBron goes to NY and another (Chris Bosh) max player joins him. How will you pay anyone else? How will you retain Lee when his contract comes up? It will take more than LeBron and Bosh to win titles.
2.) If NY is so great and the town with all the endorsement dollars why have you sucked for the past 15 seasons? I would think that superstars would be knocking down the doors of the Garden to play for you but NO.
3.) I have yet to have any New Yorker point out to me how LeBron would make all this extra money by being there. Will he sell a few more jerseys? Maybe. Incase you haven’t noticed in 2009 he was the highest endorsed basketball player on the planet and he did it in Cleveland. He was third overall only behind Tiger and Phil Mickelson.
4.) And let’s not forget he will make 30 million more over the life of his deal by staying with the Cavs than with any other team.
Will he stay in Cleveland? Who knows. But at least support your weak argument with more than, “it’s New York who wouldn’t want to be here?”
Plenty of people.
