Radar: Coach who left Tiger has 'No regard for a person like that'
May 12, 2010, 5:00 PM EDT
So is there more to this Hank Haney resignation than meets the eye? Like everything else in Tiger Woods’ life these days; probably. Woods’ golf coach resigned from Team Tiger on Monday, apparently via text message, which I found humorous. Leave it to a 55-year-old to fail to realize that you just don’t break up with someone that way; you do it on Facebook. But now Radar Online comes along with far more revealing allegations: Haney, the site says, quit Tiger because of all the fooling around on Elin.
A source close to Haney tells RadarOnline.com that despite their long partnership, and having worked closely together for six years, Haney no longer felt able to continue working with Woods as he has “no regard for a person like that.”
In his official statement, Haney told the Golf Channel he’s had great times working for Woods, but feels it’s his time to step down, for which he did not give a specific reason.
The source fills in the blanks though, telling RadarOnline.com, “Hank is a very proper person. He is a good and moral man and very private.
“He’s been horrified by the revelations that have come out regarding Tiger and his behavior and quite frankly says he has no regard for a person that acts like that.
“Hank doesn’t want to be mixed up in that kind of, you know, whatever’s going on.”
Oh come on, “source,” don’t act like such an innocent. I think that after all that’s been said and written about this, you can go ahead and figure out what’s been going on.
Of course another possibility is that Haney was driven insane after trying to fix Barkley’s swing.

Who do you think will replace Hank Haney as Tiger’s next hitting coach?

yeah right, so haney will do an entire tv series with Barkley, a gambling womanizer degenerate, but will resign as Woods swing coach. Chandler do you just make this stuff up or rely on any whisper of gossip?

Haney, took on Barkley because Tiger in part asked him to help him.
I’m a big fan of Tiger’s and a bigger fan of Hank’s swing principles. Given how well Tiger played during his relationship with Hank it may well be that the biggest loss from his off course activities will be the loss of this relationship.

Tiger’s swing was better when Butch Harmon had him so lets not get carried away with Haney leaving him

If a person is “moral”, should not he/she be willing to help those who might be lacking in this area? Perhaps the swing coach did not have the vision of taking this opportunity to offer to become a mentor coach as well. Moral Haney did not recognize that he could have had a positive influence on Tiger the man and not just Tiger the golfer. I believe that the ultimate goal of a “moral” person is to reach out to others and lend a helping hand without forcing oneself in the process.
To state that he has “No regard for a person like that” is to be self righteous and non-relevant in a world filled with hurting people. I wish that the swing coach could have made the leap of faith to become the mentor coach. I think mentor Haney could have left a lasting legacy in Tiger’s life. When people really need you to win at life and not the Masters, the moral thing to do is to lend a helping hand. Mentor Haney could have simply started with the set-up called getting back to the basics of life.
But who knows, to be a mentor in life requires more than just watching a swing. Maybe coach Haney did not have any thing else to give but a moral reason to quit.

The talked about upcoming divorce may make it near impossible for Haney to functionally coach Tiger. This could be very messy and take a long time. Haney may not want to be any where near it. If Tiger plays poorly due to all that’s going on, Haney may not want his reputation tarnished as a teacher although it won’t be his fault during this time.
He doesn’t want people to say, if you can’t coach Tiger, who can you coach?

Finally, a person with morals and values speaks out! Wish there were more.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Based on that most (if not all of us) should just shut up and worry about our own backyard. The only moral judge of Tiger (or us for that matter) doesn’t use a computer.

Its one thing to mentor someone, but it didn’t work for Haney to mentor Barkley’s swing, apparently. How are you going to mentor a person like Tiger about being completely monogamous (sp?)? Leave it to the experts. But Tiger’s going to have to really want to change. But it sounds like their swing relationship had already deteriorated; there were a lot of whispers over whether Tiger would fire Haney. Anyway, under Butch he was shorter but more accurate off the tee. Under Haney, he was longer but not as accurate off the tee. Where does he go now? Who knows?

Why would a SWINGER like Tiger need a coach anyhow

How are you going to mentor a person like Tiger about being completely monogamous?
The same way you become a swing coach: I will model the concept first; let’s do it together; you try it by yourself; did you get the desired results?
If the answer to the last question is a resounding No, then you might need to find another coach.

Regarding Tiger, many of my desires are comming true, as I want him to lose everything he has that was important to him. It is happening and, maybe, I’ll see him on a corner trying to sell pencils.

If this is true, then congrats to Haney for being an example for others. Who would want to be associated with someone who is so immoral, self-centered, and dishonest as Woods. This society is so hung up on celebrity worship, it is pathetic. Woods may have been, and may continue to be, the best and wealthiest golfer to have ever played the game, but he will never escape the reality that inside and out, he is one of the ugliest persons on the face of the planet.

We really have no idea Haney’s reason(s) for quitting, and whether or not he has already considered, and offered, a mentoring relationship. As we really have no right to judge Tiger, nor do we have the right to judge the actions of those around him.

Did anybody ever think that Tiger fired Haney and this was the best way to display it to the public. There has been talk of Haney being fired for the past year.

Tiger swings way too hard and fast coming off the tee. This approach limits careers and causes a great player to scramble more often due to sprayed shots. The extra 15 to 30 yards is not worth the lost strokes and health impacts. He typically blocks a couple right and pull-hooks a couple left into trouble almost every round.
With modern balls and clubs even an old guy like me can hit the ball 300 yards so Tiger can probably still average well over 300 with an easier tempo.
While Tiger is only one of many who have this bad habit they should all take a close look at ‘oily’ slammin Sammy Snead, keep it in the short grass more often, and play well for more years by slowing down their swing tempo.

If your childs school teacher were doing the same things Tiger is doing, would you judge him? What if it were a neighbor? Or a close friend? Of course you would! For your stupid comments, you have earned a membership in Tiger’s Idiot Fan Club.
Dan – You are also a deserving member.

Outstanding comment. However, I caution you not to take the word of the press on why Haney decided to move on.

are you kidding? nike enjoys (and embraces) the very things that caused haney to bolt from tiger: as long as it creates positive cashflow.

Bruce,
What did Tiger do to you to harbor such ill will for the man (on a corner selling pencils?)? Sounds a little green-eyed to me.
Your comments seem a bit harsh and personal.
I’ve admired his on the course accomplishments, but freely admit to being disappointed to see and hear about all the off-the-course antics.
Just a fan of “the game of golf”.

Haters, haters, the hatred is almost palpable. BRUCE, you must really, really hate the man. I wonder why. Morals? Haney? Please the man quit and stated why he quit. Whether or not we believe is irrelevant. All these people who surrounded Tiger, I believe knew about his “outside behavior.” So, STFU people, we do not Jack, other than the fact that x-amount of Bimbo’s slept with him and vice versa of course. On a street corner selling pencils, I doubt that. Perhaps the person who made that statement is closer to the job than Tiger. BREWSTER, how does boffing several bimbettes make a person one of the “ugliest people on the planet?”
If indeed, there is any HATRED for the man, Elin should be doing ALLLLLLL the hating. Fans or nonfans need to get a grip. He has not done anything that many men have not are still doing. Wrong, yes, sleazy yes, disrespectful to his wife yes, but he did NOT SCREW ANY OF US. HE JUST (e*%() UP HIS FAMILY PEOPLE. Lets also throw any a couple of sleazy SENATORS AND GOVERNORS AND PRESIDENTS, and they all had families also, but screw around they did and again, on our DIME. Do you hate them as well???? Get TFOI. Only, he is able to prove or disprove all of this inane speculation.
