Kids' Canucks Rap somehow fails to inspire actual Canucks

May 12, 2010, 11:30 AM EDT

As we all painfully learned in the Indianapolis Colts/Lil’ Ronnie incident from a few years back, a sure way to assure that your team does not win a championship is to have a children’s rap song become its unofficial anthem. It was in 2005 that Lil’ Ronnie, a 12-year-old from the “south side” (of Indianapolis), declared the Colts “Super Bowl Bound” via hip hop jam. Final score of the Super Bowl that season: Pittsburgh 21, Seattle 10.
Then in 2010 came “Cheerin’ For My City,” from noted seventh-grade MCs K-Maxx and Shelly D, who rap the praises of the Vancouver Canucks (who were eliminated from the playoffs Tuesday night). Their video even features green screen technology, a couple of barely cooperative friends and one mortified teacher.

While we can forgive these youngsters for trying to rhyme “shot” with “Raycroft,” there is probably no excuse for authoring a song about a team that includes Roberto Luongo.
Anyway, I prefer this:
