Charles Barkley: Pro sports should boycott Arizona

May 5, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT

Happy Cinco de Mayo from Charles Barkley, Arizona. If the former Suns star and current broadcast chattermouth had his way, all major sports organizations would boycott the state until they change that new anti-illegal immigration law. Oh, and if you don’t agree with him, he wouldn’t mind getting tasered. Let’s get right to the quotes. First, Barkley on Fox Sports Radio on Tuesday:

I’ve always said if America, instead of trying to bring up this issue every couple of years to get elected…Ya know the governor she’s not even a real governor. She’s the interim governor. She’s trying to get elected and John McCain is trying to get back in the ballgame from getting his ass kicked by Barack last time.

So they’re doing anything to rile up the good ‘ol boy network. But what I think we need to do is find a way to get people who work their behind off a path to citizenship more than anything. That’s the way to do it. But it’s a disgrace the way it is right now.”

Now, on the Dan Patrick Show:

Dan Patrick: You’re a resident of Arizona, I’m curious if you think baseball should get involved with the immigration law. Do you like that they’re standing up for their players to say we’re concerned about this law?

Barkley: I think we all need to. As a black person, I’m always against any form of discrimination or racial profiling. I really respect Adrian Gonzalez for coming out and saying something. I didn’t realize that in the major leagues there’s 30 percent Hispanic players, and in the minor leagues it’s like 50. Those are some daunting numbers. I think that we need to do two things. Living in Arizona, I’m disappointed that we came up with the law. But we need to do two things. We need to find a way to get these immigrants their citizenship, that’s the first thing, is to find a way to help them get citizenship. I’m very disappointed in John McCain. He used to be somebody I really admired and respected. The second thing, to me, would be very simple. Anybody who hires immigrants, you just fine them. They’re not working for other immigrants. Fine and penalize the people they’re working for, because most of those immigrants here are busting their hump, doing a great job, and to go after them every couple years because you want to raise hell doing something to get re-elected, that’s disrespectful and disgusting.

Barkley went on to say, in the Fox interview, that MLB needs to pull the All-Star Game from Arizona.
And of course, on ballpark security using tasers on field crashers:

“I think (security) should just beat the hell out of them. I got a bunch of friends who are cops. They said to me — because I want to get tasered, Dan, just to see what it feels like, not when I broke the law. But they said Charles, it’s going to hurt like a —– for a few seconds. So I said, I want to try that some time.”

The Arizona law is simply allowing police officers to enforce Federal laws ( already on the books) against illegal aliens, that our government wont enforce. It has to do with being illegal in the USA and since 99% of the illegal aliens are Hispanic,in AZ. its not racial profiling its the reality of the situation. If a red headed man commits a murder the authorities will be looking at all red headed men. That’s not hair color profiling ,its simply a fact of the saturation. The only people using race as an issue are the illegal aliens themselves and their supporters.I am proud of AZ. and the other 17 states that are wanting to pass the same law in their states.
Barkley, Jan Brewer is more of a governor than you are an illegal alien expert. I once greatly admired you as a player but never as a human being with any integrity.Better to be thought a fool CB than to open your mouth constantly and prove it.
    God Bless Arizona !

Charles Barlkey needs to concern himself with all that extra fat he’s been carryhing around. The baseball players gained entry legally and they are working in our Country. Barkley doesn’t need to be bringing up anything about our History. He doesn’t know the History of our Country, so that’s why he sounds so silly.

Oh Charles, shooting off your mouth again before thinking.
    1. Nail the guy who runs on the field because he broke the law.
    2. Give a free pass to a guy who broke the law by sneaking into another country.
It’s so funny you really can’t make this stuff up. Think before you speak people.

Charles has some good points. Like most he does not know that the existing Federal law is more restrictive than the new Arizona law. Charles, the demos have made this political to get the Hispanic vote. Close the border. Leaqve all alone that are here unless they break the law. Give them a non-voting work type I.D.

Yet the Bark doesn’t want the NBA to boycott the Suns since they too are in AZona. My guess is that the bruthas would be out of work then, and white fans would not pay to see the clown show that passes off as the NBA, and it’s high school recruitment league (James, Garnett, Anthony, Rose, etc.) American born white college graduates need not apply, and illegals cannot afford the $$$ for the tickets at courtside, so I guess Bark would be left with a Wesley Snipes/ Woody Harrelson free for all league.

    “Mr. Barkley,
Out of all non-US professional athletes, how many are illegal aliens playing illegally?
    I’ll answer for you. 0.”
People seem to be under the misapprehension that this law only targets illegals. It doesn’t, it targets anyone who looks like they might be illegal, which can include: legal residents, naturalized citizens, and naturally-born citizens. Would you like to be interrogated by a cop, just because you happen to look or sound like someone else? And what exactly constitutes the term “reasonable suspicion?” Seems there is no definition for that term in the law itself, which leads me to believe that it’s defined as whatever the enforcers of said law want it to be.

  7. AAB - May 28, 2010 at 5:00 PM

There is no federal law that allows law enforcement officials to interrogate individuals about their immigration status based upon a ‘reasonable suspicion’ that they are here illegally. The federal law states that legal aliens are required to carry proof of their immigration status. However, citizens are not required to carry proof of anything (unless of course they are driving, and even then you have a period of time to comply). So if I’m a citizen, walking around with no driver’s license, and I look ‘resonably suspicious’ of being here illegally, who’s to say I won’t be interrogated and held until someone from Immigration and Customs Enforcement is called to sort things out.
And interrogating and holding red-heads based solely on the fact that they have red hair, would definitely be called hair color profiling. You are basing your actions towards them merely on the fact that they share a characteristic of someone you happen to be looking for. A very non-threatening characteristic.
Arizona is said to have about 500,000 illegal immigrants, a majority of which are Hispanic. However, according to the US Census bureau, around 30% of Arizona’s population is made up of people of Hispanic or Latino descent. That’s almost 2 million people. Even if that includes illegal immigrants a large majority of Hispanics living in Arizona are there LEGALLY. And this law will target them, whether you want it to or not, because if we knew where all the illegal immigrants were, we wouldn’t have a law like this.

    hey charles…..SHUT YOUR TRAP

  10. CJB - Jul 4, 2010 at 3:07 PM

This law has been in the books for years, it is just now that they have decided to enforce it. So, your “racist teabaggers” argument fails as always.
I bet you have no problem when others are pulled over and asked to provide proof of insurance and a driver license, do you? How is this any different?

Here is the bottom line: these people are illegal – they have NO business in this country!! If an American goes to Mexico, and gets into a little trouble – it is a ten year prison sentence – if some Mexican gets caught over here, even killing someone, they get a sack-lunch and a free ride home!! 1.5 million illegals exploiters in the sate of AZ alone – we do not want them – and we sure do not need them!! Send their asses back, and send that jackass Brewer back with them!!

Well said – if they are ILLEGAL – get ‘em outta here!!!
