Friday Blogdome: Sports headline of the week so far (caution: may be fake)

Apr 16, 2010, 4:00 PM EDT

So, Is This TSN Headline an Epic Fail or a Colossal Win? Me, I give them an B+ for cleverness, and an A for actually getting this headline to the front page…that is until some humorless individual had it taken down, only to be replaced by the less capricious “DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS.” What the hell does that even mean? [The Last Angry Fan]
* Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin’) on the Celtics. “Oh man we have been looking not too well the last couple of months. But I have faith. What is that really corny phrase? ‘I bleed green.’ Is that what they say in Boston? I bleed green I guess. I have faith in them. I think that they can do it in the playoffs.” [Sports Radio Interviews]

* Go read this. It’s an interview with Amos Masondo, the mayor of Johannesburg (and a Jason Whitlock doppelganger). It is quite simply amazing for the directness of the questions, the honesty of the responses, and the portrait it reveals about one of the host cities for this summer’s World Cup. [Unprofessional Foul]
* USA Rugby Must Really Hate Mormons. Ranked sixth in the nation, the B.Y.U. women’s rugby team is on a roll right now heading into this weekend’s game in the national college playoffs. But whether or not they manage to beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the quarterfinals on Saturday, their season ends after the game. The reason? B.Y.U. will unfortunately have to forfeit their next game because USA Rugby scheduled the games in the next round on Sunday, and I guess Mormons aren’t allowed to do stuff on Sunday. [Sportress of Blogitude]
* Canada’s seal slaughter: The end is night? Oh, sweet irony: Just weeks after Canadian Fisheries Minister Gail Shea gave the green light for sealers to kill an additional 50,000 seals, officials have announced that they will likely have to call off this year’s massacre early because of a lack of buyers for seal fur! All that hard work by friends of seals is finally paying off. [The Peta Files]
* Power rankings: Return of the Green Men. 1. It’s Always Sunny In The Penalty Box. That’s quite a handstand, sir. [With Leather]
