Female Toronto columnist: Erin Andrews 'has made a fool out of herself'
Apr 8, 2010, 2:00 PM EDT
Toronto Star columnist Rosie DiManno is no stranger to controversy. Known in the Great White North as a George W. Bush apologist and anti-environmentalist, she also dips her toe into the pond of sports on occasion; usually to mock cyclists or other recreational sports enthusiasts. But now she may have bitten off more back bacon than she can chew. In today’s Star column she blasts ESPN’s Erin Andrews for appearing on Dancing With the Stars. And I mean she lets her have it:
DWTS is a D-List — or D-cup in the case of Pamela Anderson — piece of entertainment fluff digging ever deeper into the dregs of “celebrity” for contestants. I want to grab Andrews by the shoulders and shout: ‘What are you thinking, woman?!’
The Toronto Star once ran a house ad that described DiManno as “The Literary Equivalent of Lemon in your Eye.” A local blogger disagreed, until one day he accidentally squirted lemon juice in his eye. “Howling and wincing at the unpleasantness of it all, my first reaction was, they were right! This IS just like reading Rosie DiManno!” And DiManno was at her acidic worst when writing about Andrews, whom she feels has betrayed the profession of journalism — and indded all of womanhood — by appearing on Dancing With the Stars.
I’ve no problem with such women exploiting the industry that had so unabashedly exploited them. But it was difficult for serious sports journalists of the female gender — who have to work twice as hard to garner half the respect afforded male colleagues — to be taken at professional value, competing for face-time with bimbos.
Andrews — daughter of an investigative TV reporter in Tampa — is no bimbo, though her sideline features are more popcorn than insightful. But this DWTS is colossally unwise. She’s made a fool out of herself and a sham of her profession.
Bush league, Erin.
In a world where newsgathering and entertainment are hopelessly blurred anyway, what’s the harm in an ESPN reporter appearing on a relatively tame reality show? It’s not enough that Amdrews has been enduring death threats, now a Canadian columnist is lobbing hate grenades?
DiMatto is once again getting her iron panties in a bunch for nothing, IMHO. It could be a lot worse than Erin Andrews on Dancing With the Stars. DiMatto, like us, should just be thanking our maker that it isn’t Chumlee.

Now I understand her rant. I just looked at her picture. Typical jealousy. Plain and simple, no more analysis needed!

Like I said, I understand her rant now completely, I just looked at her picture. Typical jealousy, plain and simple, no more analysis needed!

That is the most ridiculous thing I have seen said on here. What kind of mind does not see the difference in someone invading their privacy by taping her nude through a wall and then trying to sell it with dancing? Were you being serious or sarcastic and I missed out on the connection?

I can’t think of anyone that has been on that show that has done it to benefit their profession. I think some people are thinking a little to much about as to why a person would do it. Maybe she just wanted to? And I highly doubt that whatever her name is would turn down the offer if she looked like her. This is just a bitter woman. My Sister has that complex in that if a woman walks into a room, and she is strikingly beautiful and men look at her she immediately calls her a word that rhymes with “Ditch” or another that rhymes with a common garden tool, what is it?.. Oh a Hoe. Like I said, it isn’t as complicated and deep. It’s called “Old Fashioned Jealousy,” nothing more.

Much more hate in these comments than in the original piece.

DiManno needs to just shut up and worry about her own credibility. DWTS is meant to be fun and has in no way demeaned anyone or their professions. Jealously, maybe, Ms. DiManna. Maybe after you win a Pulitzer you can criticize, but until then…shut up.

This is just the Canadian Anne Coulter… a bitter and pitiful excuse for a human being whose just brilliant enough to realize they can garner attention by saying outlandish and hurtful things. Erin may not be the best reporter out there but shes got class and brains… she dances all over DiManno in more ways than one.

Whomever considered Erin Andres and journalist in the first place is a fool. The only reason she got a job was because she was pretty. This canadian journalist needs to shut her cum trap.

Erin Andrews is a talentless hack anyway. She fit right in.

The only contribution Erin Andrews ever provided to sports culture was the nude video of her spread on the internet. That, and still pictures of her when we don’t have to hear her talk.
Just go pose for Penthouse, Erin, then go back to Canada and stay off American TV, please?
