Thursday Blogdome: LBJ Stadium? Yech

Mar 25, 2010, 2:00 PM EDT

RFK Stadium was almost LBJ Stadium. Stewart L. Udall, secretary of the interior in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations and famed protector of the environment, died last week. That led a reader to point out something I never knew: that without Udall, RFK Stadium very likely would have become LBJ Stadium. Which just doesn’t have the same ring to it. [DC Sports Bog]
More fun stuff following the jump.

* 2010 NOTY: Bulltron Regional, Part 1. We begin with the top quarter of the Bulltron Regional, named for Hall of Name inaugural class member and convicted felon Assumption Bulltron. In the interest of time — mine — early voting will proceed the same way as last year. Fill out the first two rounds of your NOTY ballot. Then vote for whoever advances. [Name of the Year]
* South Africans, They’re Just Like Us… By which we mean, their cops are fat. So in advance of the World Cup, the country is sending its police officers to fat camp. No lie. The BBC put together this little fun report right: here (sorry, no embed link for the video and attempts to strip the flv were thwarted). [Unprofessional Foul]
* Another awesome MMA GIF. So DREAM.13, the pay-per-view-style event for the Japanese MMA outfit, happened on Monday. I don’t know if it was a pay-per-view per se, but it was that sort of event. Anyway, the biggest business of the night was delivered to Yoshihiro Maeda, who absorbed a badass combo from the former WEC featherweight champ Cole Escovedo. [With Leather]
* The Inexorable Spread of 3-D Technology Comes to Hockey. Last night, MSG Network set up a private screening of the first- ever live hockey game broadcast in 3-D, and the reviews were generally positive. [The Sporting Blog]
