Former ASU receiver would like you to look back at him (I'm on a horse)

Mar 4, 2010, 11:30 AM EST

Sure you want to smell like a man while riding a horse; we all do. But I never would have guessed that this spot for Old Spice would have been the most enduring of all the Super Bowl commercials. Yep, this is the one that went viral (video following the jump), and as a bonus to Pac-10 football fans, the star is none other than former ASU wide receiver Isaiah Mustafa, a member of the Sun Devils’ 1996 Rose Bowl team. Mustafa will be on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, will appear on Oprah sometime in the near future, and the Arizona Republic reports that there’s some type of movie deal in the works. But Mustafa’s big goal is to appear on someone else’s show.

From the New York Daily News:

Isaiah Mustafa may be riding high on his body-baring Old Spice commercials, but he wouldn’t mind an extra gig: namely, a guest spot on the Howard Stern show.

“It’s my all-time top goal,” says the superpopular man that your man could smell like. “I’ve been a huge Stern fan since he came to L.A. syndicated. He’s the heart and soul of NYC — you get a feel for New Yorkers when you listen to his show.”

Here’s a video interview with the commercial’s creators, Craig Allen and Eric Kallman of Wieden & Kennedy in Portland, OR, explaining how it was made. (It was filmed all in one shot, believe it or not).
You’ll also be glad to know that Jake Plummer had a hand in all of this. Of course he did.
