Tiger smacked by proposed PETA billboard

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals took a swipe at both irresponsible pet owners and Tiger Woods today, announcing plans to use the graphic you see to the right as a billboard to be placed near Tiger’s home in Orlando in the near future. (Male dogs bark their disapproval). Of course, the fact that the graphic has been leaked might be PETA’s way of sending up a trial balloon to see if Tiger’s attorneys attempt sue them back to the stone age. But there’s something bigger at work here. Namely, that Woods’ televised apology on Friday hasn’t seemed to stem the phenomenon of Tiger-as-parody. The man’s image is now literally associated with reckless, harmful behavior; a negative brand that isn’t going away soon.


A post at The PETA Files explaining the whole thing seems to have been taken down. But here’s the text that was there, as reported by the Huffington Post:

One unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce an estimated 420,000 cats in only seven years, and a female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in six years. Many of those animals end up unwanted and unloved, often dropped off at animal shelters that are already bursting at the seams

Just as we all know and accept that the sky is blue, we know that every time a breeder or pet store sells an animal, an animal in an animal shelter loses his or her life.

In December, the Syracuse Crunch minor league hockey team offered a “Tiger Woods Foursome,” in which fans could purchase four tickets to a game, plus receive a certificate for discounted auto body work, for $60. This is only the beginning, folks.

    As someone who supports the ASPCA taking care of 3 animals a month on a reoccuring basis not just a one time gift, I am disgusted by your organization’s marketing tactics and I would NEVER, as a donor, give a dime to your organization as much as I love animals. You are pathetic and your ad is disturbing. I hope you lose your biggest donors and supporters. NO taste or tact or CLASS. By the comments posted you are NOW endangering animals…hope you feel good about yourself and can find ways to deal with your new tactics. YOU have done the animal community a big disservice…HOPE YOU sleep well tonight.

    If any one cares about real news, that actor was found dead in Vancouver, health care meeting went nowhere, and a plane crashed in Peru. Please pray for all the real victims in the news.

    I admire Tiger Woods,not for what he has done BUT because he is a GREAT SPORTSMAN….thats why!!!. We all make mistakes, and no one is perfect in on this earth. TW, has publicly apologised, accept it and (please) leave him alone. (Papua New Guinea)

    Seriously is Tiger the only famous man out there that got caught cheating on his wife. John Edwards and Bill Clinton didn’t get this much crap for cheating.
    Did Tiger murder someone like Scott Peterson, or shoplift like Winona Rider, or put a knife to his wifes neck like Charlie Sheen, or beat his girlfried like Chris Brown, or drug and Rape a 13 year old girl like Norman Polanski. WTF did Tiger do that was so Bad, he cheated on his wife, the only person that should be mad is his wife. David Letter wife use to be a co-worker and he cheated on her with a another co-worker. I’m pretty sure he has been doing this for years. Sleep with me or you are fired. OMG Tigers a monster because he slept with some Prostitutes.
    The media are a bunch of Hypocrites, they pick and choose who to ridicule, you got a bunch of celebraties that cheat on there wives and they get praised. Example Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, I’m sure Brad was still married to Jen when they first hooked up. If Im wrong then I would like to apologies to Brad. This is the one thing people fail to realize to be a celebraty, you are gonna have women and men coming after you. I bet even Al Roker
    Now you got the Porn Stars on tv talking about I don’t want to be know as the Home wrecking Whore. Isn’t one of her movies called the Home Wrecking Whore. Half of these girls if you find there website, has a price list of how much it would cost to have a Porn Star experience.

    Try to write in simple sentences, Zapper. You know, a subject and verb and a complete thought. A sentence should end in some sort of punctuation, also. ( a period, question mark, exclamation point..SOMETHING!!

    So many republicans have been caught cheating even on tape and eventually it fades away. Women, you always ask men to be more emotional, how much more emotional could an apology get. Leave him alone and stop treating him as if he is a child abuser.

    P.E.T.A. are hippocrites! complained about the slaughtering of horses by trainers who sell them for $500 or less to slaughter houses. Since H.B.O.’s special on slaugtering of horses it has been banned in the U.S.. Where are you idiots then when the same people you crititize begin to do the right thing. You know how many adoption agencies are set up now. Instead, of negative publicity try getting a channel and running productive ideas such as H.B.O..

    And so with your logic 2 wrongs continue to make a right. No matter what you think of Tiger or his actions, PETA has no right to use his image (either legally or ethically), nor do they have any right to utilize the situation as a pseudo cover for their agenda.
    For goodness sakes what, ads the show and make fun of the woman who was attacked by the chimp or the mangled body of the woman who was killed in sea world by the Killer Whale.
    You may think you have morals but your support of this kind of crap shows you have no brain…dumb ass!

    I agree with not abusing animals and giving them proper care. I disagree with an agency that goes to such extremes to get attention. Did Tiger Woods abuse an animal? Keep him out of your advertising – it gives you that negative perception that makes you seem like a bunch of flakes. You hurt your own cause for decency toward God’s creatures.

    Yeah he can go back to the golf course and play golf no one really cares if he does that!!! Just don’t put his face on TV as a spokesman for any products! I don’t want my daughter or (sons) believing that you have to take whatever abuse someone wants to hand out to them even if its just emotional!!! If any of you have a child you know that you would absoulty want them to be respected and treated with dignity from people that claim to love them.
    And yeah people have affairs everyday and we all know its the kids that pay the highest price, not the MOM and DAD! Tiger was the one that helped bring those children into the world and he’s the one that just made it a little more cruel for them!!!

    If Tiger resumes his cheating ways maybe he should get fixed to avoid any unwanted pregancies. Even with putting a bag on your pepperoni there is no guarantee your partner won’t get pregant. I know I have a 15 year old as proof.

    I can’t believe that management of a responsible corporation actually approved that billboard. I have never heard of such childish and amateurish pranks. These are the type of shenanigans that go on in high school. Please grow up!!!!

    Ya know, Tiger Woods made himSELF the butt of thousands of jokes by his actions. he can’t claim to be personally harmed by PETA’s actions.
    Besides, as a public figure, he can be lampooned, lambasted, belittled, mocked, toyed with, demeaned, depicted as crass and callow and as someone who “cats around” with impunity.
    If he didn’t want to be made fun of, he should have just kept it in his pants.
