Stephen A. Smith calls Tiger Woods 'a punk who cowered from the real issue'
Feb 22, 2010, 3:00 PM EDT
In case you were wondering what Stephen A. Smith thought of Tiger Woods’ little press apology get-together on Friday, you’re in luck. He appeared on KLAC radio in Los Angeles on Friday and did his usual thing: Chewing the scenery until nothing was left but a microphone and and the host in his underwear. Smith, as it turns out, is not a big fan of Tiger’s apology. An excerpt:
“I thought he came across as very fake and disingenuous. I didn’t buy a word of sincerity that was coming out of his mouth. I thought he was upset that he even had to be there in terms of having to address anybody. Certainly he didn’t want to address the media and I thought that he was a punk and cowered away from the real issue of really addressing the issue of what transpired.”
“You don’t have to get into the details of what transpired between you and the mistresses or between you and your wife, or whatever the case may be. But you do need to go in front of some people and actually answer questions as opposed to some kind of press people. You’ve got people who think it’s brilliant and all of this other stuff — they’re living in a different world than me. I thought that he was insincere, I thought the words were sincere, but I thought the heart that was spewing those words left a lot to be desired quite frankly.”
But my favorite part was when Smith declared Tiger had been lying from the start, referring to his early press release on his web site in which he claimed Elin saved him from his SUV on the night he crashed.
“I think that people should stay out of people’s bedrooms, their business is their business. But the problem I have is that he started this whole thing when he went on his personal blog and lied, talking about his wife being a hero who rescued him from an SUV crash. There’s no way you run into a fire hydrant and a tree when you’re just driving down the street, and he’s talkin’ about she pulled him out of the car and saved him.
“In the interest of full disclosure, let me tell you some information about myself. I own a black Escalade. I own the exact same black Escalade that Tiger was driving that night, and I’m here to tell you that there’s no way that Elin broke out the back window, went in and dragged him from the front of the car and out to the street. It’s a complete lie, it’s a cockamamie story and was made up, and nobody is buying it.”

I have watched, heard and read Mr. Smith’s comments. He comes across also as very insincere. He appears to be horribly jealous of Tiger’s talents, fortunes and ability (good or bad) to captivate the media and the public. Unfortunately Mr. Smiths’stalents lie in the areas of spewing nonesense in areas of which he obviously knows nothing. Obviously Mr. Smith is enjoying his brief, very brief, time in the sun, being a critic of everything Tiger does and says. Enjoy it Mr.Smith..in a few months Tiger will be back…and you’ll be back to your former ‘career’..a bitter, angry nobody. Enjoy!!!

to me tiger’s apology came across too scripted and insincere. i’m a little tired of the whole situation…if i were elin, i’d take the money and run….he can still be a good father, but with all that loot under your belt elin, chances are you can find yourself a really nice guy and get on with your life

Good morning all.
As usual you have made my day even before it begins. I salute you neasayers and you yeasayers for putting a smile on my face, even before I shave. Your contributions as well as your one minute of fame is the biggest bunch of crap that there is. I thank you for that. What would life be without judgemental crap from all of you. Again, thank you for your comical writings. I look forward to tomorrow.

Yes, that is correct, Tiger is a “punk.” That is the perfect word for this jerk. Sad to see that Elin is back because I think the “punk” could also be as dangerous as OJ Simpson–he can use her previous “9 iron” swing at his head for a claim of justifiable homicide. I can’t believe Elin is back by his side, I guess that’s where the “dumb blonde” moniker comes from isn’t it? Clearly, he paid her alot to do so, that is the only explanation and probably a “no sex” marriage–she’s probably caught all of the diseases by now so maybe not… Tiger is a punk, plain and simple, literally.

For TrojanHorse: I’ll type this slower for you…Tiger is a professional golfer. He hits a small ball into a hole really well and has made a billion dollars doing it. He’s used the money to create foundations for kids, donated millions to charity. He chased tail. SO WHAT!! You think he lied? SO WHAT!!! He’s a professional golfer. Not a politician voted into office. He doesn’t run the country. Get a life!!

For TrojanHorse: My quick note with a mispelled word doesn’t change the fact Steve Smith is a slim ball green with envy. Why does Tiger owe Steve Smith an apology? Is it because Steve Smith makes a living writing articles about people better than him? Steve Smith needs a real life. I pity people like Steve Smith.

Rick – Thank you for being perhaps the only member of the media with the professionalism to realize the difference between the words “coward” and “cowered” in respect to this story.
Seriously, look it up. You should get an award.

Tiger only owes his wife and children an apology. Not the women he slept with. They knew he was married,if anything they owe his wife an apology. they apologize to tiger’s wife then he apologize to them, end of story.

What I would like to know is:
Who made S. A. Smith an expert on anything? He was a low rent newscaster on some fly by night TV station who just “decided” he was a sports expert? NBA, I believe. Kind of like this “Scoop” Jackson. Who in the hell decided he was a basketball expert? Listen to him sometimes, he doesn’t know squat about basketball, he’s a street punk. ESPN will let anyone “claiming” to be an expert get on TV and spew crap. Skip Bayless is another example.
These talking heads make me sick. Get a life!!

With all the issues facing us as a species surviving on this ever shrinking orb, we are a pathetic bunch. To retain such focus on a celebrity and milking some sorry story to death says something about our priorities. Let the guy and his family go through whatever voodoo they must do to heal and let’s get back on track with Tiger teeing off at the next tourney. Enough of this already!

Copying and pasting Marv’s comment because it’s worth repeating!!!
“With everything else happening in the world it only shows how shallow we are for not paying more attention to things that really matter.”
