Best. Quilt. Ever. Now Up for Auction. On Saturday, February 20, in Union, Missouri, a unique and amazing collection of baseball memorabilia will be auctioned off. Baseball fan Clara Schmitt Rothmeier, who passed away last June, created several baseball-themed quilts, the most famous of which, a piece called “My Favorite Baseball Stars,” was exhibited by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 1959-1960. * Former Socceroo Dies of Suspected Overdose, Suspect Arrested At Porky’s. Sad news from Down Under that we missed earlier this week: former Socceroo Ian Gray was found dead in his residence. Police later classified his death as suspicious and twenty-two year old Sherryn Marie Davis was arrested yesterday on manslaughter charges, supplying illicit drugs, and larceny. Police believe Davis sold Gray heroin and stole $3,000 worth of his belongings. Ms. Davis was arrested just down the road from Gray’s residence at Porky’s brothel in Sydney’s Kings Cross. Seriously. * Check Out Ron Artest’s Spay Day Slam Dunk. Ron Artest is the compassionate king of any court he steps on. Just in time for Spay Day on February 23, the NBA All-Star and Los Angeles Lakers forward will reveal his new spay-and-neuter billboard tomorrow in Los Angeles at 8238 Beverly Blvd. (near Sweetzer Avenue). The first 20 people to arrive will receive coupons for free spay or neuter surgeries provided by the Sam Simon Foundation — a Los Angeles-area organization that runs a mobile clinic providing free spay and neuter surgeries and low-cost veterinary services. * LeGarrette Blount Will Not Give Up On His Dream to Play in the NFL. “I will have to keep my composure. I know that I am going to get asked the same question over and over. I can’t avoid it. I cant go into an interview saying, ‘I don’t want to talk about Spetember 3rd,’ and they are going to like what? Are you serious? We are interviewing you. I don’t let it get to me. I don’t let it get on my nerves. It doesn’t irritate me at all because I know that there is a lot more of those same questions coming into this combine and doing these interviews with these teams. As long as I just keep my composure … I mean it doesn’t bother me at all. As long as I do that then I think I will be fine.” [Sports Radio Interviews]
