Text of Tiger Woods' statement leaked? (With update)

Feb 18, 2010, 11:00 AM EST

Of course if Tiger Woods’ media statement is going to be leaked, it might as well end up in the hands of a country & western radio station in Asheville, NC. WKSF FM 99.9 has what it says is the text of Woods’ message to the troops, scheduled in less than 24 hours from PGA Tour headquarters in Florida. There’s no information on where they got it, so I can’t vouch for the authenticity. But one thing I can vouch for are the cool, rockin’ vocal stylings of Carrie Underwood, on KISS Country 99.9. From their site:
Here’s the text that’s being leaked of Tiger Woods’ speech scheduled for Friday, 2/19 at 11AM (ET):

“Directly to the point there is no one to blame but me for the mess I have put my wife and family through. I accept total and complete responsibility. My wife and I have been trying to work things out but sadly things have not worked out. Again all the blame is upon me.”

The statement continues following the jump.

“We have decided to live apart with me having mutually agreed upon times when I can be with our children. I know that the world wants all the details of what transpired in our marriage but that is between my wife and I and will remain that way. I have to get on my life and that means playing golf again. I have contacted The Masters and have informed them that my plan is to resume The Masters and they have said that they would welcome me with open arms. For that I am most grateful for I deserve nothing. Finally I want to thank all my fans around the world for standing by me when I let you down horribly. I failed all of you about as badly as a person can. I apologize to everyone of you. I promise all of you that you will see a new Tiger Woods, a better Tiger Woods and I will not let you down. Now I’d like, by the grace of God and with His help, to get back to what I do best and that is playing golf. See you all at The Masters. God Bless you all. Tiger Woods.”

Nothing surprising here really; except for Tiger playing the God card so heavily. It’s pretty much what was promised in a statement on his web site on Thursday.
The consensus seems to be “That’s some made-up BS right there.” Yeah, it does look like a rather clunky little speech. But if it is fake, shouldn’t it at least be funny? Very odd.
UPDATE: Another red flag. Neither of the radio stations I contacted about this have returned my emails.
UPDATE: The New York Daily News reports that a representative of Tiger Woods has told them the purported transcript “is absolutely false.” Glenn Greenspan, spokesman for the Tiger Woods Foundation, would not address the specifics of the supposed statement which was obtained by a North Carolina country & western radio station.

This is the biggest bunch of made up b.s. ever!

  2. Billp - Feb 18, 2010 at 11:20 AM

Leave Tiger alone. Those are his and his wife’s problems. There wer no big issues mentioned when Magic Johnson mentioned that he was HIV positive. WONDER HOW HE GOT THAT? The guy is human and has weaknesses like all of us. His is women. To some women it’s men, Both can be addicted to Gambling and Drugs.
Live and let live. People in glass houses don’t throw rocks. We all have weaknesses. Let the guy make a living

I have to get on my life?…………..shouldn’t it be “have to get on WITH my life? crazy…this is made up or his advisor need to go back to english class. No wonder a country station came out with this. must need some pub. so now everyone will tune in via internet. Not I. but will tune in tomorrow.

“I have to get on my life and that means playing golf again.”
Really, agree with Rick. If you’re going to try the scam thing – a) limit typos and b) be funny.

  5. Ashley - Feb 18, 2010 at 12:24 PM

This country radio station you mentioned is noway in need of some “pub”. They are in fact CMA award winners, so making up some dumb bs like this is in no way of them trying to get more listners. As far as Tiger Woods is concerened let his personal life stay that way so we can all move on with him returning to golf.

He said God twice, I sheet twice a day, does
that make me a heavy sheeter ??
Tiger, it is none of my business what is going on with your marriage, and by the way, I can imagine you playing hide N seek with your kids, I bet they never find you, just like the press.
I think that is why people are so pissed at you, no pictures and
the press can’t sell any papers or mags.

This was clearly not written by a guy who went to Stanford. Some drunk guy at Hooters, maybe.
    Total foany baloney.

  8. TheSportsHernia - Feb 18, 2010 at 1:09 PM

“I apologize to everyone of you.”
should be “every one” in this instance. Fire the PR flacks at once.

  9. CRC - Feb 18, 2010 at 1:30 PM

I’m from NC, this leak is confirmed.

  11. ti-guy - Feb 18, 2010 at 3:08 PM

This is not with that well rehearsed statement that Mr. Woods will get me back as a fan. He will be a new Tiger Woods, I don’t believe him at all. There is serious reasons his wife will not take hime back, one of which is that she does not trust him…………………

  12. alex - Feb 18, 2010 at 3:19 PM

i dont care. just keep winning tournaments and chasing jack. your personal life is your personal life.

  13. CWoods - Feb 18, 2010 at 6:15 PM

Keep up the great game of golf. You still have some loyal fans out there. Personal life, Oh well? Nothing you can do now.

  14. Digger - Feb 18, 2010 at 6:18 PM

Tiger, your the best golfer in the world, and will continue to be. Break Jack’s record. This will all be forgotten in time…..

  15. digger - Feb 18, 2010 at 6:23 PM

Tiger you are the best golfer in the world……….
Go after Jack’s record cuz you can beat it. This too will pass!!

  16. daFACTS - Feb 18, 2010 at 7:01 PM

Hey – Tiger only made it at Stanford for a year or two…..
    Give daBrother a break!!!

  17. chuckwagon - Feb 18, 2010 at 11:00 PM

Tiger is a chump and a media controlled, selfish, self-centered all about me apology does nothing. Can wait to see how this LOSER handles the heckling. You even bigger losers are pathetic sticking up for him. Jack did it loving only Barbara, Tiger is doing on Cialis. After all it is a sponsor on the PGA Tour.

  18. Hollywood Dave - Feb 18, 2010 at 11:34 PM

What none of you seem to realize is that Tiger’s leaked statement was what is called a ” trial balloon “. They leak what they would like to say in the statement and then see the reaction. Then they can refine and correct the actual statement to make it more acceptable. Politicians do it all the time. So let’s all see how the actual statement turns out.
