Tiger sticks it to Accenture with comeback press conference; expect Elin to be there, too
Feb 17, 2010, 3:00 PM EDT
Interesting that Tiger Woods chose Friday at 11 a.m. ET to break his silence and make his statement to the press, that being smack in the middle of the Accenture Match Play Championship. At least we know that he hasn’t lost that competitive fire. Accenture, you see, was one of the first sponsors to drop Woods when word of his sex scandal first came out, so distracting from the event can be considered a bit of payback.
Woods will speak at the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass, headquarters of the PGA Tour in Florida. His agent, Mark Steinberg, has stressed that “this is not a press conference,” and he’s right; Woods will not take questions following his statement, and only the Bloomberg and Associated Press wire services have been invited. Steinberg also noted to the press: “As a courtesy, there will be a room made available at a nearby conference center for credentialed reporters to watch his talk on the televised feed.” So not only will there be no questions, but it appears that some or all reporters in attendance won’t even be allowed to watch Woods speak. It’s a glorified press release, really … with Tiger appearing in the room like a Star Wars hologram.
But what is he likely to say?
According to the Mosnar Communications Inc. public relations blog, expect a political PR style apology to his family his fans and his sponsors.
Better late than never, brand Tiger Woods is about the break his silence. The once held spotless reputation now in deep trouble will confront the media on this Friday. I suspect the entire world will be watching and listening. Most likely even President Barack Obama will even tune in.
You should expect Elin to be present during the press conference.
Keep in mind we have been warned that media access will be limited. Did Woods sponsors react too soon? Do you really think Tiger Woods brand can make a full comeback?
Meanwhile, AP’s Doug Ferguson reports that Steinberg has asked the Golf Writers Association of America to pick a small group of reporters to serve as a pool. Steinberg said there would be one pool camera, but it would be available live via satellite.

You are just as much of a sinner as tiger woods was. Your jealousy of his fame and fortune gush forth with such self righteousness is sickens me.You are what they call a hater!!! You wish you had the money and skill of others. You dont. So its bash them when they are down. Very Classy!!! They say there was one man who never sinned. They crucified him. We all know tiger made terrible choices that damaged golf, his family and friends and I am sure himself. But your draconian judgement is just as bad as the sins he committed. Read Sermon on the Mount you dipshit!!! Whats the chance you are white Mr Alan from AZ?

Who cares about his personal life. He is the best golfer in the world and that is what he is paid to do. His sex life is his business, I may not agree, but it is none of my business. Tiger is still the # 1 golfer in the world. That is all anyone needs to know. ( In my opinion )………

Good to see him coming back. I really don’t give a damn who he boinked. He is a pro golfer and that is where I watch him. He has tapped into quite a few so hopefully, he will focus on the kids more now since he has had his fun. Go Tiger!

Why is this goof ball still in the news at all? He had his chance to explain this within a few days after this happened (like Kobe). Seems like now he is only sorry he got caught; not sorry it happened. . . .

All you sanctimonious Tiger haters who don’t like him, DON’T WATCH HIM, DON’T BUY WHAT HE ENDORSES, COVER YOUR EARS WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT HIM. Get used to it: He’s coming back and will most likely pick up right where he left off. End of story!

Tiger is once again going to bluff everyone, his wife, his sponsors, his golf associates, and his brainless fans into believing his ” I’m sorry, I’m changing” story.. and use every resource available to establish favor in the public eye… he is even paying people to post forgiving messages on this board!!! He is a fraud, a cheat, a liar, a spoiled, arrogant, self centered, egotist who cares about no one but himself.. I hope America wakes up and stops supporting these overpaid, spoiled, worthless athletes who are being paid outrageous sums of money to chase a little ball around a field, while students are spending years and years going to school to become doctors, nurses, teachers and are barely able to make ends meet… Time to re set the priorities in this country, starting with rethinking the logic of spending 100′s, 1000′s, 1,000,000′s of dollars on athletes who provide no real benefit to our country, except sports entertainment, which is much more interesting at the grade school, high school and college level than pro sports, who just take steroids and cheat…. including TIGER!
WAKE UP! Stop wasting money and resources on mindless pro sports! Let’s use those resources to better our kids, our schools, our environment and start PARTICIPATING in sports, instead of WATCHING spoiled, brats like TIGER with no REAL WORLDY SKILLS that help anyone but TIGER!

We need to stop being a nation of spectators, with ever widening arses, and get out there any play these games ourselves! Live your own life instead of living vicariously through somebody else….
By the way, if any of Tiger’s sponsors are reading these posts, having his face (or any other celebrity) on your product does not sway me. You are wasting your money.

This will bring more attention to the Accenture, not less. Interviews of the other golfers from the Accenture will be all over the news. And the Accenture will be mentioned in every story about this–kind of like this one.

I don’t condone his idiocy. It hurts, but one thing everyone should know is that money, power and fame go with SEX. It is part of biology and the preservation of the specie that women like to sleep with men who have any of these things. Get over it. He and his wife should work at it, and if she can handle it for the next 20 years (I know that’s how long it might take for her to come to terms with it) then she should be left by all the gawkers of this hypocritical world to live her life, he his.

Tiger has done wrong. So have we all to varying degrees. How can we hope to be forgiven for our faults if we can’t forgive others?
Erin does not need to take him back but she has a great heart and loves him anyway and wants to forgive him and make it work.
I am one of the millions that never watched golf before Tiger and I will not watch it when he is not playing.
I think the golfing world better watch out cause a Tiger is returning that will not have the burden of infidelity to distract him.

Funny how all the idiots making stupid comments hang on every media release and word of Tiger. Say what you will, Golf returns to the overly boring semi-sport it once was without Tiger. I love to watch golf WHEN TIGER IS PLAYING; otherwise I just love to play golf. Tiger owes us nothing and once he starts playing (and winning) again on tour lots of the naysayers will jump on this bandwagon: wait and see. If I were in his position I’d probably stick it to Accenture too–what the hell.

Why don’t people just keep things to them self. Until they are in his shoes they don’t know what all was going on inside his house. Also who in the world knows for sure who he was with for sex and who gives a heck . If your kids look up so much to mommy and daddy then I would think most of them would clean up their own house before casting stones. We all forgive each other. Now let the man be and let him get on with his game with or without his wife. They will work it out not some loud mouth person. Get over it!!! You may be next!!!!

All you haters need to take a chill pill. You’re pissed because he cheated on his wife — then don’t watch him. You’re pissed because you think he offends people’s sensibilities — then don’t watch him. You’re whining: “He’s not the role model I thought he was.” Give me a BREAK! YOU be a role model to your own kids – don’t depend on Tiger to do it for you. Everyone’s got their crosses to bear and their skeletons in the closets — pretending that you don’t doesn’t make you cool or beyond reproach — it makes you a freakin’ hypocrite, because everyone and I mean EVERYONE’s got ‘em. Instead of harping on Tiger’s cross and skeletons, you should be thanking God that yours aren’t splashed all over the media, you sanctimonious punks. Tiger’s an authority on golf because he’s an amazingly gifted golfer. He is charitable and he also makes money selling things. If you don’t like his charity, then don’t give. If you don’t like what he endorses, then don’t buy, fools! Me personally – I can’t wait til he’s back and smacking down all the other pros like so many mosquitoes. Speaking of mosquitoes, all you Haters suck. Go waste some more air somewhere else you fools.

What spineless wimp. Suck it up Eldrick and face the press and answer any and all questions they may have regarding cheating ways rather than this staged public apology you will be making, which is no better than your website admission of your infidelity. The shame and guilt would be overwhelming, but you might walk away with a ceratin degree of respect from your fans intact.
What a slap in the face to Accenture who paid you millions. Was this your idea to come out of hiding right in the middle of the Accenture match play tournement? Is it your way of paying them back for dropping you? You have no class!

Well, well, well. I’ve just spent the last 5 minutes reading these comments and I must say, what a mixed bag. My thoughts… the man has shown a gross lack of personal responsibility to his wife, his family and his employeers, period. Nothing can/will erase that fact. Now, do I really care? Nada, not in the least, and his lack of judgement/honesty doesn’t change the fact that he’s a great golfer, But, he’s damaged goods, plain and simple. Do I or should anyone look up to him? No!!! Would I want my daughter dating him? No!!! Can he change? Ask him… oh, yea we can’t… he’s not taking questions… case closed.

I’m with Tiger…….stick it to all that dropped you!! The only persons you owe ANYTHING to is your family!!! You shouldn’t need to have a press conference, but all of these nosy idiots want to hear about your private life. Tiger, just leave them all in the dark. How about a “I’m ready to golf” and walk out.
