Paper: Tiger Woods thought sex rehab was 'a joke'

Feb 11, 2010, 7:00 PM EDT

The National Enquirer, which began this whole Tiger Woods infidelity barn dance back in November (remember when you scoffed at them for daring to report that Woods was having an affair? Ah, we were so innocent then), has today come up with an amusing nugget. Woods did not learn anything during his time at the Gentle Path sex rehabilitation clinic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and in fact thought the entire program was “a joke.” That’s according to an Enquirer source, who claimed that Woods “has been in complete denial the whole time.” Woods reportedly left the clinic last week with wife Elin Nordegren, the two hoping to repair their marriage.
Fat chance, says the Enquirer.

In its current edition, the Enquirer prints a report from a source who supposedly has inside information on Woods’ stay in Hattiesburg.

The disgraced golfer treated group therapy with such contempt that he caused one female patient to break down in tears, the source says.

“Tiger’s so-called rehabilitation is a joke. He went into rehab as a sex addict, and he’s coming out as one. He has been in complete denial the whole time,” claims the source. “Tiger isn’t about to change his stripes. As soon as his wife Elin takes her eyes off him, he will be hopping into bed with the first bimbo that catches his eye.”

I’m not sure who talks like that, especially if they know they’re being quoted. Yet it’s not hard to believe that the King of Golf would just be going through the motions with the rehab program, so that he could possibly salvage his marriage and get on with his life (i.e.: golf). If he was even there at all, that is.
Because the source could conceivably have been talking about a Tiger Woods lookalike. Huh? Did we just blow your mind?

Great insight. It seems doubtful that he has a sexual addiction. And, like over half of married men, he has had at least one affair. Big deal. The more important point is that this issue is between he and his wife. Being open and honest in any relationship is far more important then fidelity. Males have been “hard-wired” by evolution to seek as many mates as possible. Tiger did nothing that most men, given their innate impulses, would also like to do. Marriage provides the deep, relational connection all people want but it has been turned into, by religion and culture, a way to inhibit natural human sexuality.

Sex Addict?? If he were not married he would not be in any trouble. We would not be hearing about any of this. If I were a young, good looking, rich, sport star I would be chasing tail night and day too.

  3. Recovering Sex Addict - Feb 12, 2010 at 9:56 AM

Sex addiction is not the same as sex drive. Read “Healing the Addicted Brain” to understand brain changes of addiction or “Out of the Shadows” / “Don’t Call it Love” for better understanding of sexual addiction. Sex addiction is compulsive sexual behavior that violates one’s values; leads to interpersonal, financial, occupational and other devastating consequences; is behavior that someone is unable to stop despite desire to do so; used as a means to “medicate” moods or anxiety; involves spending great amounts of time and energy to satisfy obsessions about sex and requiring more–and potentially personally devastating– sexual behavior to satisfy the growing “high.” The myth that it is just about sexual desire fails to grasp the severity of the problem that has likely been going on for some time in many forms and expressions.

Who cares? This guy is yesterday’s news and the PGA will not even miss him. And if he does come back he will never be where he was again thanks to that steroid knee of his that keeps bothering him.

  9. Jesse - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:17 AM

Tiger get divorced! Some guys are just not the married type. You will save yourself a lot of headaches. It’s not news if you are single. Also, it’s a lot cheaper now than if you wait ten years like Michael Jordan did. Once you mature you can settle down a live with someone.

  10. Polyguy - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:30 AM

Keep quoting The National Enquirer, and you’re going to lose this Canadian as a subscriber. Tiger, get back in the game now!! I haven’t watched one round of golf on t.v. since you left.

  11. SBWitmer - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:32 AM

Could not agree more .. you hit the nail on the head !!

Hmm, last I heard, this blog was free. But maybe they require Canadians to subscribe.

  13. Tiger Woods - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:44 AM

I was planning to take a few more weeks off, but since you’ve demanded it, Polyguy, OK then. I’ll be back next weekend. Thanks for appealing directly to me.

Whatever happened to people following a sport for the love of the game, not for whatever bs soap-opera plotline you can vicariously live through? I’m not the hugest fan of golf, but Tiger is interesting to watch- he is an excellent golfer.
That’s really all I demand of my favorite athletes. I just want them to play the sport, and be good at it. Earn that ridiculously over-blown paycheck, and entertain me.
I’m not talking about athletes being full-blown criminals- I’m talking about people being allowed to have a personal life. I couldn’t be close friends with someone who serially cheats on his wife and kids, but I don’t wanna hang out with these athletes- I wanna watch them play sports.
Would you stop buying gasoline at a certain store because the cashier selling it cheats on his wife? Would you refuse help from a cop or fireman who cheats on his wife?
Even famous athletes deserve to have a personal life.

I always thought if you were a addict you couldn’t participate in the addiction again or you would fall back into that same situation. Does that mean a sex addict can’t have sex anymore? Young men and women have sex all the time that’s for they do. I agree with another writer sex addiction is a farce just ask any college student or prostitute who does it for a living. Tiger just got caught just like every other person that has an affair and gets caught married or dating. Sex is what makes other people responsibility was what got neglected in tiger’s case and the understanding of what would happen if he got caught. He’s a young adult with a billion dollar’s which makes him attractive to every women unfortunately he did not understand getting caught would embarrass his wife and put her in a situation while following him on tour that she shouldn’t have to be subjected. Even if they continue their marriage some a–hole on tour will shout something that may be true but inappropriate just for a laugh.

What the heck does that mean? Who exactly hasn’t ‘made their money from the public?!?!?!?”
Let me ask this, he and Elin got married in what, 05? Does that mean that all the “public” money Woods made both in tournaments and/or endorsements is off limits since those funds could not be linked to his being the perfect husband and father figure?!?!
Not one single endorsement dollar was based off of what Tiger Woods w/’his stick’, but rather what he does with ‘his golf sticks’. Elin, nor his children have ever appeared in an endorsement commerical, never. Any position they took against Tiger is hypcritical at best.

  17. Rod - Feb 12, 2010 at 12:38 PM

And if he is…it ain’t nobody’s business but his and his wife. People need to worry about their own life. Because at the end of the day…..Tiger will still be rich, good looking and to be honest…probably find a better looking woman then the blond he’s with now. I think that’s what people hate…”Why the nerve of that blackman…sticking it to these white women” he couldn’t stick-em if they didn’t let him..I mean everybody and their cat knew he was married…. They just didn’t care! Remember Jack Jackson the boxer…American hated that he was putting that scud missile to their darling white women. ….America has not changed its stripes, its as racial as it ever was…its just coated better then it was.

  18. Michael MN - Feb 12, 2010 at 12:44 PM

I dont think any person working in a sex rehab clinic (at least not anyone professional) would use the term ‘bimbo’ at any time. Maybe this was a janitor.
Yes, I believe that a woman may have cried while in a group session with Tiger Woods. That is something that happens, and is often considered a good sign. They keep a lot of tissue boxes at therapy sessions.
If his wife, Elin, picked him up it seems likely that she recieved a crdible report of progress.

  19. Roderick - Feb 12, 2010 at 12:44 PM

I can’t believe all these closeted racist hating on Tiger. They are just mad that this black man took an old rich white man’s game and made himself a billion dollars, and had the audacity to put the wood (no pun intended) to a few of their daughters along the way……GET OVER IT! News flash….your daughters loved it!

funny how the National Enquirer stories eventually come out on the national news…about 2-3 weeks later. Dont you think if those stories werent true there would be a whole lot of law suits being thrown at them?

  21. Chazz - Feb 12, 2010 at 1:25 PM

“He went into rehab as a sex addict, and he’s coming out as one.” Putting aside the fact that this “source” is ridiculous, and my personal feelings on being addicted to something that is built into every species as a means to survive, an addict enters and leaves a facility as an addict. You are not “cured”, addiction is always with you, you just learn tools to deal with it. Only one nuggett that makes this story with no credible info. BTW, i have recently checked into a “h2o” recovery clinic, as it seems im addicted to water.

  22. Mike Elzey - Feb 12, 2010 at 2:30 PM

I am going to go out on a limb and guess that this was a “Twelve Step” based rehab. That is worse than a joke. It’s harmful.

  23. Mike Elzey - Feb 12, 2010 at 2:32 PM

    I hate you

  24. Ed Hardy - Feb 12, 2010 at 2:43 PM

I normally don’t believe in censorship, but the comments and language used by “RT” is really out of line.

  25. JASON - Feb 12, 2010 at 2:54 PM

Just wondering…..since he’s half black, how do you know it’s the black half that’s talented at golf? Could be the asian half that’s the golf superstar.
