Aussie paper: Tiger to return to golf on Feb. 15

Feb 3, 2010, 11:30 AM EDT

Hey, if Tiger Woods is going to return to the golf course and the scrutiny of the public, why not do it the day after Valentine’s Day? According to the Melbourne Herald Sun, Australia’s finest source for Tiger Woods news, Woods will return to golf at the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona on Feb. 15 (although tourney match play doesn’t actually begin until Wednesday, Feb. 17). That’s within a fortnight, the paper points out. They use the word fortnight a lot.

Only a fortnight after allegedly checking into a sex addiction clinic in Mississippi, the world No. 1 is set to stun the world by returning to the Dove Mountain course where he made his comeback from knee surgery last year.

The paper doesn’t quote anyone or indicate any solid sources, but does engage in some speculation toward the end of the article.

As a matchplay event, it’s more for the purists than perhaps a “regular” tour event would be, diminishing his chances of being harassed.

Similarly, if he was to play badly in round one, he could “disappear” again rather than sit in the glare of the media spotlight until the mid-tournament cut.

Online bookies around the world have many “Tiger special” markets up and odds on him playing the Masters have shortened appreciably. There must be some “knowledge” around for that to occur — and it’s hard to believe he won’t hit majors’ season in full stride.

Woods’ Ryders Cup teammate Jim Furyk says that he expects to see Woods back for the Masters in April, and it if that’s true, it does make sense for him to emerge for a tuneup event. It;s also true that betting odds usually don’t move significantly unless someone knows something. But like everything else involving Woods since Thanksgiving, it’s really all just raw speculation.
This whole saga is beginning to take on an Elvis-is-really-still-alive kind of quality. Woods needs to come back and retake ownership of his own story, whether he’s ready to play golf or not.

  3. willmose - Feb 3, 2010 at 11:37 PM

Do you call all victims of domestic violence pieces of whatever or is just non-whites that call that? I’m interested because it will reveal whether you are a racist sack of chocolate long johns or just a simple ole sack of chocolate long johns. So eat your chocolate long johns and die!

  4. ccgoodgolfer - Feb 3, 2010 at 11:41 PM

Good one Terry, sounds like we need to find out what you are hiding!!!! For everyone: Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones!!! I can’t wait to see some good golf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Judy - Feb 4, 2010 at 1:40 AM

I am 100% behind Tiger all the way!!!! He needs to return to Golf, because that is what he loves. He is by far the best golfer to ever step on a course. I am quite sure that Tiger, is not the only sports figure, or golfer that has ever cheated on his wife.
Don’t get me wrong. I do believe that he made a huge mistake but that is strictly between him and Elin. They have two beautiful children together that need their Mother and Daddy.
I know that I am not perfect, nor is anyone making these terrible comments about him. I hope he can come back and do better than ever. I hope Elin is right by his side where she has belonged all these years.
You don’t send a man out by himself and expect that he will not be sought after by every money hungry women on this earth.
Please people, let this thing drop and let’s hope that he has learned his lesson and that Elin, whom I am sure has not always
been there for him needs to be there for him from now on. They need to work through this mess.
By the way, who are any of you to judge anyone’s personal life?
We have one judge, and all Tiger needs is to be forgiven by God, and his wonderful family…..
Tiger please come back real soon and show these guys what you are made of….
Our thoughts and prayers are with you daily!!!!!
Good Luck in everything you do now and show these people who the real golfer and human being that has been forgiven truly is.
    Judy OK.

To the many comments of “Who cares?”, the answer is a resounding millions and millions! If you try to emulate Tiger off the golf course, you’re a fool. Tiger is about Golf. Your neighbors are about drama. As my Barber says to everyone….”NEXT?”.

  7. Snookie - Feb 4, 2010 at 8:10 AM

    What’s wrong with you all?
Haven’t anyone ever heard of freedom of speech?
Terry is just angry over Tiger’s transgressions and
what he did to his wife and kids.
If anyone needs to go to church, that would be Tiger.
and the way you all throwing stones at Terry, you should all
be ashamed of yourselves!!! Everyone is passing judgement onto
Terry but Terry can’t voice some anger towards your precious
Tiger. You all need to step back and look into the mirror
and look at how you are bashing Terry. Everyone is doing the
exact same thing that Terry did to Tiger. Leave Terry alone
We are entitled to our feelings
    God Bless Terry

  8. Hutch - Feb 4, 2010 at 8:27 AM

Nice to see the comments from all these PERFECT people, who have never made any mistakes in life. Get over it people!

  9. Jtony - Feb 4, 2010 at 8:42 AM

OK,ok! We know Tiger had extramarital multiple affairs. Its old news, so why are people still making him the worst thing on earth judging by some of the comments? What he did in private is between those involved, just like if the great skills he has playing golf was kept to a course hidden away. No one would know of his talent. But unfortunately those secrets didn’t stay private. What is fortunate is that we are alive to see one of the best golfers making history, not not reading about as it happen if we were kids or not even born yet. I would like to see him return to play the game that he help make more interesting and exciting. I’m right because despite off the courses, the greats before him that are alive have given him credit where its due for what he has done on the courses. Never and should would we the public care about things behind close doors. And whether 13days or 13months…you can’t judge how soon a person recovers or what they have to work on when not in rehab sessions. Maybe he has to call someone, check in, read, etc. and adhere to a bunch of things in order to get back to normal. Look at what AA people go through. Give Tiger a break. Lets see him back on the course sooner then later. AND THOSE THAT DON’T! YOU NEVER LIKED THE GUY ANYWAY!!!!

  10. race - Feb 4, 2010 at 9:13 AM

Has anyone ever heard of the word ‘character’?

  11. Jtony - Feb 4, 2010 at 9:22 AM

SNOOKIE & TERRY: Hmmm I wonder if they are the ones hanging on the cross or the ones banging in the nails?

  12. eddyblue - Feb 4, 2010 at 10:23 AM

TIGER is by far the most talented golfer this world has EVER seen bar none. His presence and chrisma on the course adds excitment and drama to a game which was sorely lacking in both. From a viewer’s perspective the game is just not the same without Tiger. It is really unfortunate that some members of the PGA choose to deride tiger for his indiscretions, they should try to be more grateful and supportive of someone who has significantly improved the purse quality within the PGA. Without Tiger guys, don’t expect to receive the same prize money you were getting while he played, for, as the ratings plummet so will your salaries and endorsement deals. The only interesting that happened on tour lately was John Daly loosing all that weight, hell!!! maybe he can get an endorsement deal with Jenny craig…

  13. vinnide64 - Feb 4, 2010 at 11:51 AM

    Snookie,
maybe you forgot the freedom to respond! Terry, like you are in the minority on this one and its just natural to get jump on like he did. if you mess with a bee hive thousands of bees are not gonna take that lightly so they attack, and thats all that happened to Terry. By the way, why should he be upset behind what a man does to his wife? did it effect him? did he or she loose their job, did his or her marriage fell apart, did he or her loose their home and car, did a doctor tell him or her that they have cancer since learning about tiger? I THINK NOT!!!!at last I checked the rapture has not come and the earth did not come to an end and we’re not standing in judgement yet, so why should he or she worry about or even shed a tear for Elin and the kids? she got PAID!!!!!!!!and the kids are set for life and are too young to understand whats going on so why bother being angered. then most of all…I believe Terry is a big boy or girl and if he or she feels so dumped on let him or her say so! what you protecting dat rear flank now?

  14. vinnide64 - Feb 4, 2010 at 11:54 AM

    huh????????????????????????????????

  15. Bill - Feb 4, 2010 at 2:50 PM

    Hey Terry,
Who died and made you god? I would like to run a background check on you to see if you pass the total BS test Mr. perfect.

  16. Leo - Feb 4, 2010 at 5:16 PM

Terry, I’m no Tiger apologist but your characterization is way out of line. What he did was morally wrong and he hurt his wife and kids terribly. But he did not commit a crime and he is not an elected official who got into his position by asking for our votes. He is a golfer for heavens sake and a very good one at that. He needs to make amends with his wife and family if possible. He owes nothing to the rest of us.

  17. joe - Feb 4, 2010 at 5:16 PM

    dude how are you

  18. gerald mcglockling - Feb 4, 2010 at 8:58 PM

you have to get a grip.

  19. Bob - Feb 5, 2010 at 10:47 AM

We all make mistakes…I’ve made quite a few. Tiger screwed up and knows it.
He hurt himself and his family.
I don’t feel he should be banned from golf. He’s a great golfer. He hasn’t used drugs or anything to make him what he is.
I think everyone is making to much of it due to publicity.
If it was you or me…..it would be dust in the wind.

let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

  22. Tiger Nation - Feb 5, 2010 at 1:05 PM

    For ALL Tiger haters…
The TigerNation has stayed out of the fray for a long time. However, this HATRED is getting ridiculous. Half of you are jealous that you are messing with Porn-stars, some of you have been literally praying for Tiger to fall his WHOLE career, and the rest of you are Jealous in GENERAL… Forget RACE and everything else that goes into this. This is a privacy matter. He doesn’t owe ANY of you ANYTHING!!!! Its his life. None of you signed contracts with him and as for these self-righteous writers… Please, open your closet so that we can see inside… GO TIGER… This is going to be a GREAT year for the TIGERNATION… Keep the faith!

  23. ucienl henry - Feb 7, 2010 at 10:35 AM

we should not be concern on what going behind close door between a man and a woman very personal. I firmly believe every one of us have some kind of skeleton in our closet. the main thing is bring some one down at all expenses some king a way make a saint; may the one without skeleton cast the first stone. it seems we want to dictate others how to live our ideal life

  24. ron - Feb 7, 2010 at 6:34 PM

I just was trying to find the news on whether Tiger was coming back to play at the Match play and found all this stuff. There are some sensible people with reasonable views on the subject..BUT, the small little people that take this as an opportunity to speak badly about him out of jealosy, racism, hollier-than-thou complex and any other bigotry based feelings, and also the sexually deprived fools that think their silly, childish one line inuendo simply suck and need to get a life.
Thanks for the opportunity to see how many idiots are roaming around….
P.S. I hope that any bad thing they may have done gets exposed and their friends and family know how petty and worthless they are.
