Aussie paper: Tiger to return to golf on Feb. 15

Feb 3, 2010, 11:30 AM EST

Hey, if Tiger Woods is going to return to the golf course and the scrutiny of the public, why not do it the day after Valentine’s Day? According to the Melbourne Herald Sun, Australia’s finest source for Tiger Woods news, Woods will return to golf at the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona on Feb. 15 (although tourney match play doesn’t actually begin until Wednesday, Feb. 17). That’s within a fortnight, the paper points out. They use the word fortnight a lot.

Only a fortnight after allegedly checking into a sex addiction clinic in Mississippi, the world No. 1 is set to stun the world by returning to the Dove Mountain course where he made his comeback from knee surgery last year.

The paper doesn’t quote anyone or indicate any solid sources, but does engage in some speculation toward the end of the article.

As a matchplay event, it’s more for the purists than perhaps a “regular” tour event would be, diminishing his chances of being harassed.

Similarly, if he was to play badly in round one, he could “disappear” again rather than sit in the glare of the media spotlight until the mid-tournament cut.

Online bookies around the world have many “Tiger special” markets up and odds on him playing the Masters have shortened appreciably. There must be some “knowledge” around for that to occur — and it’s hard to believe he won’t hit majors’ season in full stride.

Woods’ Ryders Cup teammate Jim Furyk says that he expects to see Woods back for the Masters in April, and it if that’s true, it does make sense for him to emerge for a tuneup event. It;s also true that betting odds usually don’t move significantly unless someone knows something. But like everything else involving Woods since Thanksgiving, it’s really all just raw speculation.
This whole saga is beginning to take on an Elvis-is-really-still-alive kind of quality. Woods needs to come back and retake ownership of his own story, whether he’s ready to play golf or not.

If he returns, he better watch his balls. Everyone is going to want one. Possibly the boo’s and moans will distract him and he may have his worst game ever, or even drop out of play because of the pressure.

    WHO CARES

  3. Terry - Feb 3, 2010 at 3:57 PM

    That Sucks!
Tiger Woods is a disgrace as a human being.
He is even more of a disgrace to the game of golf. The
bottom line is always money. Tiger Woods will bring alot
of money to the PGA. Welcome back Tiger, You piece of
    **** of a human being.

Guess his sex rehab was for 13 days not 13 weeks and he’s cured now in 13 days..Tiger is great at everything!

  5. Tom F - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:01 PM

I hope he shoots 100 as the pressure will be too much for him.

  6. brutus00 - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:01 PM

I doubt Tiger would drop out “because of the pressure”. His whole career seems to be heightened due to pressure. Play bad? Maybe, but he’s lost in an early round there before so it would be hard to tell when it’s not stroke play. As an alpha male, he’s probably more motivated to win and shut everyone up as has been his mo in the past. Should be interesting… especially if for some unforeseen reason Elin shows up!!

  7. jaime - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:02 PM

I believe it when I see him,

  8. DrMyEye - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:04 PM

Get over yourself, you sanctimonious “fans”. Tiger cheated on his wife. He screwed up. He is paying dearly for it. He is also an amazing golfer. He deserves to play, and golf needs him.

  9. B-man - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:06 PM

I am tired of reading about Tigers rehab and his sex life. I couldn’t care less. Just like I couldn’t care less if his gold digging wife stays married to him. He is the greatest golfer in the world and belongs on the golf course! Tiger will be judged when it comes time. It’s not anyones business to judge him on a message board, unless you are perfect. Somehow I doubt that is the case……

  10. Debbie - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:06 PM

To Terry #3 above. If Tiger is a disgrace as a human being, I believe that is his, not yours. Your comments just reflect gossip and how you feel about yourself which doesn’t appear good. One who gossips and spreads bad things about one only reaps what THEY sow. His story has nothing to do with us or the world or anyone except him and his family. Go to Church.

  11. iamachristian - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:08 PM

Obviously, Joe Nadani doesn’t have any clue what he’s talking about! Tiger Woods is the best thing in the history of golf that has ever happened to the game! Case closed! The game of golf needs a Tiger Woods! And, you think Tiger is worried about “boo’s and moans?” Sir, your comment is not even close! Tiger will return better than ever!

  12. saywha - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:08 PM

I haven’t watched golf, and don’t intend to until Tiger returns. If all the other “philanderers” (Spitzer, Clinton, et al) can be restored and forgiven, why can’t Tiger? He is Golf’s “cash cow” and they know it. As the ONE without tarnish once said, “let he who is without sin, cast the first stone”.

  13. Tom F - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:08 PM

I hope he shoots 100 and gets boo’d off the course

  14. hmmmm - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:09 PM

    stroke play huh?
might be good at both right now!

  15. Jimbo - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:11 PM

If it’s true, welcome back, Tiger. My wife and I are pulling for you on and off the course!

  16. Debbie - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:11 PM

If Tiger is a disgrace as a human being, I believe that his is, not yours to be gossiping about or spreading bad things about someone. It says more about the person saying something like that than it does the person they are talking about. Which doesn’t appear good for you Terry. You will only reap what YOU sow. Watch your tongue and go to Church

  17. Rbagley2nd - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:13 PM

I’m quite sure you and yours have always lead circuspect lives, no wrong doing, always above board. The stats say that 75% of men and 50% of women have strayed from their vows, but again I’m sure not in your circle. But then looking at your language it does cause me to wonder! By the way, what do you say of the 13 -15 women that were involved. I’m sure none of them knew who he was or that he was married!

  18. Z - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:14 PM

I hope this is true…and I hope HE WINS! I am Tiger Woods fan on the golf course. What he does off the course is non of our business. Get your face out of the medias junk and respect the fact that he may very well be the best athlete of all time. Who cares if he’s a scumbag (which may not even be true depending on whether or not you believe sex addiction is real)? He made golf relevant. He made watching golf fun. And he made a lot of people (including other PGA Tour golfers) a ton of money. Wah, he cheated on his wife with tons of woman. And that has what to do with 14 major championships and countless unmatched PGA memories?

  19. Ed - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:14 PM

I am a more-interested-than-average golf fan. I recently saw an ad on TV for the Masters that portrayed 5 or 6 different golfers, none of whom were Tiger Woods, and beyond Phil Mickelson, I actually had no idea who any of them were.
A list of the world’s top 100 golfers is basically a collection of unrecognizable names: Dustin Johnson and Yasuhuru Imano, anyone?
What a blow to the sport if Tiger doesn’t come back. They don’t televise sports to promote marital fidelity (and remember, Wilt Chamberlain claimed to have slept with 10,000 women?)
Golf without Tiger is like boxing without a recognizable heavyweight champ. Just not worth paying attention to.

  20. iamachristian - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:15 PM

Obviously, so Joe Nadani you think Tiger will be dealing with “the pressure and drop out?” Ha! Fat chance! It shows you have no clue what you’re talking about! Tiger Woods is the best thing, in the history of golf, that has ever happened to the game! Case closed! The game of golf needs a Tiger Woods! And, you think Tiger is worried about “boo’s and moans?” I beg the differ…Tiger will return better than ever!

  21. Tigger - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:17 PM

He will shoot 69 in every round he plays.

  22. Kevin - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:17 PM

Church?? Why, it obviously did tiger no good!!

  23. Luke - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:17 PM

Hey, don’t be surprised if he asks to be in a “foursome” LOL

  24. STEVE - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:18 PM

    HOW DO YOU REALLY FEEL?

  25. peggy - Feb 3, 2010 at 4:20 PM

Good, he belongs on the golf course.
His private life has nothing to do with the general public
He and his wife can work out their problems on their own.
    MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESSES :(
