I made a couple of calls to make sure this isn’t some sort of prank, and sadly, it’s indeed legit. A former pro wrestling promoter is starting an all-Caucasian pro basketball league which hopes to start in June in 12 cities, among them Augusta, Ga. The All-American Basketball Alliance announced its plans in a news release Sunday evening, hours before Martin Luther King Day. Excerpt: “Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league.”

Meet Don “Moose” Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA who incredibly, somehow did not acquire the nickname “Bubba” or “Skeeter.” He told the Augusta Chronicle that the reasoning behind the league’s roster restrictions is not racism.
“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” Lewis said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.”
Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of “street-ball” played by “people of color.” He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas’ indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans’ dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.
“Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?” he said. “That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.”
I called the Augusta Chronicle to make sure this was real, and indeed, a nice fellow in the sports department confirmed it. He also assured me that the league will probably never get off the ground.
But believe it or not, the Chronicle got a few emails supporting the league. It’s my understanding that those emailers may have had relatives who were shot with arrows by Burt Reynolds during a canoe trip, and are still a little angry. But I could be wrong.

Is this guy a klansman or something? Gimme a break. It’s bad enough that our that the paper in Montgomery, AL was calling Monday “Martin Luther Kind/Robert E. Lee Day”. As a yankee forced to live in Mobile, AL to support my family, I’m totally sick of these racist jackasses who want aryans only, but claim it isn’t a racial thing.
Makes me want to puke. I’m sure they claim to be good Christians as well.

Ok, so what is wrong with this? As we can all see and understand “white men can’t jump”. The NBA is basically a black league because face it, African-Americans are better athletes! And it is not just basketball, it is football as well. An all white league simply gives us second stringers a chance to get some game time! Larry Birds are few and far between these days and for those who can play up to the caliber of those in the NBA do it. For those who wish to pay for tickets to the sub NBA its ok!! You are not racist in my book, you are acknowledging the superiority of the African-American athlete and choosing to support a league for the less fortunate.

If there was an all-black league, would anyone here be complaining? If someone wanted to start an all-female league because they didn’t like playing in co-ed leagues because the male athletes had an unfair physical advantage, would anyone complain?
I don’t have a problem with the league, and I’m not white. People should be free to start any club they like, and they are free to exclude people too.
Curves excludes men, but gentlemen’s clubs are sexist?
Get rid of the double standards here!

If there can be the BET (Black Entertainment Television) why cant there be White Entertaining Basketball… double standards??? Nahhhhh. Cant have the Archie Bunkers or the Little Rascals on TV anymore because they were so-called racist shows. Let me know how many white shows are on BET?

Now don’t get me wrong, I think it’s kind of silly myself, but the funny irony about this whole thing is that if it was an all african-american league that was being started up, it wouldn’t be viewed as racist at all, and would be lauded for what it would be trying to achieve. Just think about it, the hypocrisy of our country is despicable.

I think it’s a great idea. It shows how the game will be played as it once was without all the bells and whistles. So you won’t see the same level athletes as you do in the NBA, so what. That league’s been in the toilet since the departure of MJ. Too many me-players/thugs, players who care less about the game than themselves and it shows on the courts.

Fan-of-Four: Of course there will in all likelihood be a player of Arenas’ caliber (pun intended) in the new all-white league. The NBA, like the new league (as if it would ever get off the ground) must police itself and ban idiots from the game. Once a few of them are shuffled off to their “pick-up games” and not making the ungodly sums of money the NBA offers, the antics will stop.

The reason “the league will probably not get off the ground” is because such an idea is likely to be a violation of federal law.
What may work is this: 2 points for every free throw like a normal basket, 4-pointers instead of 3-pointers, and minus 3 points for every slam dunk and acrobatic layup.

Whoa Chico, “God given right” to bear arms??? I did not know that God granted that right to us. The NRA will not jump into trying to protect an idiot display of firearms well outside the bounds of the reasons for the “right to bear arms” granted by the US Constitution AND specifically against NBA policy. But again, even an all-white league will be subject to the antics of an idiot or two. Police it and the antics will stop.

Everything is like a drug deal, building a new mall, or starting a new subdivision. It’s and 1)making money 2)excluding people. First I agree that thugs should not be given 1 second in any sports venue. One and done. But keep in mind, behind all drug deals or venture capitalist is a white man trying to make and extra dime. Goofy minorities (all colors) are pawns in the game. White people, to this day can’t except that what they did was wrong and don’t care about doing any better (with exceptions). Minorities can’t except that the opportunties that some worked so hard for have been wasted (also with exceptions. The election of a Black President has proven that we are a long way from a color-blind, merit-based society. We all really need to start looking at ourselves before it’s too late. Let the league speak for itself. To say for whites only says alot. Why not a league for all with the highest standards of character, value and conduct. The NBA would get on board for fold. One problem with this is that this guy is demonizing the other. That is, if you want a league to develop native american white athletes then that may be a good thing (I am african american) but then to criticize street ball culture, etc. this is where the racism comes in. If African Americans prefer to play street ball that should be fine, if europeans like the long ball so be it. Also black leagues, etc were started because people could not join the white leagues. This was and is really anti american because baseball and football are really special monopolies that essentially recieve government support and funds. the government which gets all of hour money could not defend keeping giving football and baseball this status if they were so blatantly racist. You say tomato i say tomatoe live and let live.
