Tiger Woods must sign 'a celibacy contract' as part of sex addiction therapy

Jan 19, 2010, 11:00 AM EDT

Another apparent confirmation that Tiger Woods is currently undergoing sex rehab at a woodsy Mississippi clinic; author Benoit Denizet-Lewis, a recovering sex addict himself, said that someone he knows has confirmed that Woods is at Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services in Hattiesburg, Miss. It’s unclear if Denizet-Lewis is a Pine Grove alumnus, but he knows an awful lot about the process. He’s author of the books America Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life, and the newly-released American Voyeur. Key quote:

Denizet-Lewis said Woods will likely feel intense shame at first.

Patients sign a “celibacy contract” that bans all sexual contact — including masturbation — while in treatment. Also included in the pricy program are 12-step meetings, arts-therapy sessions and brutal honesty.

As Woody Allen famously said: “Hey, don’t knock masturbation. It’s sex with someone I love.”
“People tend to come in and be pretty freaked out,” Denizet-Lewis said to the New York Daily News. “You arrive, and suddenly it hits you, ‘My God, I’m going to rehab for sex addiction.’ “

“You can put down a drink or a drug and not have to see it for a while,” he said. “But you can’t go anywhere without your genitalia or your brain; those are attached to you.”

Among Woods’ first lessons, Denizet-Lewis said, will be that the oft-questioned addiction to sex is very real.

“We mock or it we say it’s not a real addiction,” said the journalist, who regularly contributes to the New York Times magazine. “But it’s very much the real deal.”

He added that no one should hold onto the “glib perception” that entering rehab for sex addiction is akin to landing a prize invite to an orgy.

“Trust me, you’re not going to score a lot in sex rehab,” he said.

But then, Denizet-Lewis has never met Tiger Woods. The man is an unstoppable force.
Possibly included in Woods’ therapy would be the Labyrinth Treatment, in which patients weave through a walking path set into the floor while praying or reflecting. From News Around the State:

The practice of walking labyrinths has been used in many cultures for over 3,500 years. Though there are many kinds of labyrinths, all share the basic features of one entrance and exit, a single path and a center. Those who walk a labyrinth, including Pine Grove’s patients, may use it for prayer, reflection, or as an opportunity to center themselves for healing.

I wonder if you can bring a caddy.
There have been several reports of Woods checking in to the Pine Grove clinic, including WLBT-TV, and NBC affiliate, and WJTT-TV, both in Hattiesburg, and the gossip site Radar Online. But this is the first credible name attached to such a report

Will–go read the part of the article again where it says “You can put down a drink or a drug and not have to see it for a while…” and think about it–do you go anywhere without your mind or genitalia? They are the driving force behind a sex addict. I’m not saying Woods is or isn’t but if he is and he’s in a 12-step program, then he is heading in the right direction. SEX ADDICTION IS REAL.

What the heck is all this SEX ADDICTION talk?? All normal men
are geared to have sex as often as possible with the opposite sex.
That’s almost all we think about in our younger years. We still think about it in our older years but can’t do much about it.
We even have a system to lower our standards by consuming alcohol
in mass quantities to achieve our quest. The difference between most men that cheat and the ones that don’t is opportunity. If it’s shoved in your face it very hard to say no because we are males first and people second. Do you think there would be as many people on this earth if it was left up to the females sex drive alone?
I’m not saying that men are right to do this, I have never cheated on my Wife but then again I avoid flirting with women and getting into that position to take it a step further.
What Tiger did goes against the whole code of conduct in Golf. Golf is a gentleman’s game that is unlike any other sport. You strive to do your best but not at the cost of your own integrity. If you commit a foul, you call it on your self

Let him who has no sin cast the first stone. It is easy to judge someone from afar, but not even the great Jack or Arnie were perfect… I can assure you (no one is). Yes, this will naturally effect certain people’s perception on who Tiger was supposed to be, but don’t doubt for a second that he doesn’t regret his decisions. There will most assuredly be consequences, especially when one considers his fame and the effects on his children one day. This is what probably torments him the most.
The whole thing about temptation is that it’s tempting, but until you walk a mile in his shoes I wouldn’t come across all high and mighty. We all like to think we wouldn’t behave a certain way, but I’m not sure anybody really knows. Believe me, I don’t approve of what Tiger did, and it is really quite sad, but everyone deserves forgiveness, even you…

It’s not like he doesn’t have a ‘formerly willing’ partner when he gets out. I’ll bet a dude like Tiger never whacked that much anyway, that was what all the women were for.
If the dudes on Survivor can go 39 days, he can.

After years of playing 18 hoes a day… you just want im to quit

  8. Golfa - Jan 20, 2010 at 3:38 PM

I’m sorry…But when Woods started endorsing products I purchase I need to know what he stands for. If he’s an adulter or sex addict I’m much less likely to purchase those products he endorses. Basically, the day he started appearing in Buick commercials and carrying around AT&T bags for 40 Bazillion dollars is the day he lost his private life and began my right to know about his personal life.

    Exactly!

Well … Tiger is redefining the 19th hole and how it is played, and on that one he’ll gladly score a triple bogey!! But sex addict … I don’t think so. Do you actually know one fit golfer who is in such physical shape to take on the harem as he supposedly did ? All the golfers I know would be sucking wind by the time the got up to the B’s!!

Big Freaking Deal, who cares!!!!!!!! theres a whole lot of other news worhty stories!!!! people get a life!!!!!!

  12. Hazel - Jan 21, 2010 at 11:09 AM

Two wrongs don’t make it right. Just b/c you did it and Tiger is doing it doesn’t make it right. And to say everyone’s doing it or wishes for it and anyone who says otherwise is a liar is so far from wrong!! My husband and I have been married since we were 21 (almost 20 yrs ago) and have been completely monogamous (and that includes self gratification) and completely happy. Just becuase your moral compass isn’t pointed due north doesn’t mean others aren’t.

  13. hounddog - Jan 29, 2010 at 2:56 PM

Tiger Woods used to be a good player, but because of his own actions and choices he wasted a wonderful life and all that money.
I would now not even trust him if he did recover. I lost my respect for this sex addict and hearing about how he just trashed his family for cheap hookers who should be ashamed of their actions. This guy was looked up by many as a role model. He needs serious help and should lose his contracts for being so stupid.
I don’t pity him at all , I pity those who think he didn’t do anything wrong. All those young kids getting mixed messages. He could have passed stds and aids to his family, didn’t he love them enough to think about passing a deadly disease to them. He is a looser to me and I pray that he did not pass aids around . If there is proof of that he should be sent to jail like all the others that continue to spread communicable diseases that kill innocent people freely. Tiger should not be forgiven and should pay for his adultry and lose visitation rights to the children.
Does he really care for them anyway? If he loved them this would have not happened. What a loser

Give the man a break. Tiger isn’t the first nor will he be the last to screw around on his wife. It doesn’t make it right what he did, but get real. There are many woman out there much hotter than his wife and willing to bang him for a buck. The mans a multimillionaire, theres no need for him to stay with an aging wife when he has women throwing themselves at his feet. Whats a hot blooded millionaire to do. He ain’t the first and won’t be the last man to stray. Give the man a break.
