Stubby Clapp's Video Vault: Chris "Birdman" Andersen Wants You To Sleep Well

Jan 16, 2010, 1:15 PM EDT

Every weekday (and on weekends, occasionally), or at least every weekday in which we can find more than one, we’ll present the day’s best in little noted sports video gems. Please feel free to riff with your own dialogue. Who is Stubby Clapp, you ask? Sir, you wound our esteemed editor.

Chris “Birdman” Andersen pimps product for Mattress King. What is going on with that bird call? For those of you still unfamiliar with the Birdman of Pepsi Center, Chris Andersen is a tattooed, looks-like-it-was-combed-with-a-caramel-apple-hairstyled forward for the NBA’s Denver Nuggets who was once kicked out of the league for violating the NBA’s drug policy. “Our mattresses provide the comfort and support you are looking for the next time you go through withdrawals!” Or something like that. [Awful Announcing]
More videos after the jump, including a retro Family Feud video featuring former Major League ballplayers.

At least for today – or until another video is uploaded later – we have the college basketball dunk of the year. When one considers mad hops, one’s mind invariably thinks of Mennonite liberal arts colleges in Indiana. Just me? Anyhoo, what we have here is a particularly gnarly (yes, I used the word “gnarly”) dunk by Errick McCollum, a senior at NAIA Division II Goshen, against Grace College earlier this month. Hey, Division II basketball player guy: you just got posterized, sucka! [Midwest Sports Fans]

Not to be outdone, Geddy Lee is reportedly writing the theme song for the Canadian National Curling Team. Already arguably the BEST.DRUMMER.EVER, Neil Peart, the drummer for legendary Canadian rockers Rush, added to his already impressive resume when he signed on to do a drum solo-infused redo of the “Hockey Night In Canada” theme song, a/k/a the Second National Anthem of Canada. To no surprise, and you don’t even have to be a Canuckistani to realize this, Peart absolutely owns it. And by the way, if you need me to explain who Neil Peart, Geddy Lee or Rush is to you, you might as well turn in your Internet Nerd Card immediately. [Fanhouse]

Remember Ray Coombs? He’s back…in YouTube video form! Is there anything more entertaining than watching a professional athlete forced out of his comfort zone? Well, except for a brand spanking new Slinky right out of the box, of course. Here we have an absolutely wonderful old school game show video of Joe Carter and Wally Joyner making an appearance during one of The Family Feud ‘s “Natural Enemies” special in 1990. Survey says? Amusing. [Walkoff Walk]

Hi there – I’m using this theme and I love it! But I just noticed that the search function doesn’t seem to work. Is there a way for me to fix this?
