Elin playing hardball, may go for 'half of Tiger's fortune' in divorce

With Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren seemingly headed down the rapids toward Divorce Falls, word comes that the missus has hired a pretty big gun to handle any potential legal proceedings. Meet celebrity attorney Sorrell Trope, rumored to wear steel underwear and eat his meat raw. Oh, and also it’s said that he can “bust through any pre-nup; he’s done it several times before.”
What’s at stake? From the London Daily Mirror:

Tiger Woods’ devastated wife has called in California’s top celebrity divorce lawyer, say her friends. And Elin Nordegren — rocked by her husband’s string of alleged affairs — could get half the £337.5million he has earned in the five years they have been married.


Holy crap.
Driving the speculation that Elin is looking to pound Tiger into a fine, powdery substance in court are these facts:
* She’s been seen in public twice without her wedding ring, and doesn’t appear to care who knows it.
* She recently purchased a multi-million dollar mansion in her native Sweden in hers and her sister’s name.
* According to the Mirror, Elin will not seek a divorce in Orlando, the couple’s primary residence. Instead, she’s filing the papers in California, which has a no-fault community property law.
It appears that Elin is trying to finish the job she started with a golf club on Thanksgiving night.

Trope, 82, a partner in Californian law firm Trope and Trope, has represented big-name stars including Cary Grant, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage and Britney Spears in a 60-year career.

Under California law the “no-fault divorce”, introduced in 1970, means there is an equal division of assets and property.

This could mean that any pre-nup agreement Elin signed with the golf star will be torn up.

A source said: “Mr Trope is the best divorce lawyer in the business and the divorce laws in California are much more favourable than most other states.

“Elin can fight for half of what her husband has earned since they were married. And Trope can bust through any pre-nup – he’s done it many times before.”

Last night, when asked if he was representing Woods’ wife as her divorce lawyer, Trope replied: “Not right now.”

    The whole lot of you are a sad bunch. If Tiger and Elin have a prenup then that’s a contract — a contact specifically designed for this very situation. Elin will get what the contract specifies she should get — and whatever else Tiger decides she needs to care for the children. It’s pretty simple and not really worth the time most have you have spent thinking about this sorry situation.
    Facts are Mr. Woods is a golfer. He is not a politician or priest. Why does it matter to you that he strayed in his marriage. He is still a better golfer than you or I ever would hope to be. Maybe a lot of the comments here are from people who are a little bit jealous that he worked hard at something and was successful.
    So seriously — you should quit feeding this ridiculous story with your attention.

I’m asking you and everyone…simply leave race out of this discussion! And to you, Fmaster1 calling me a simple idiot because I made an opinion…well, so did you! But please, you and everyone, kindly keep your conversation to Tiger & Elin. Say whatever you want, but kindly don’t implicate others who opinionate here. If you don’t agree simply ignore or don’t read it! I’ve made my statement late Tuesday night, we’ll see what happens way down the line, it’ll be interesting to see who’s opinion was correct..and if mine is wrong, so be it…sue me!

    If you can’t pay, then don’t play.
    Don’t think a pre-nup is unbreakable. A pre-nup is a contract, but if the terms are broken by a party, then the contract can be voided by the other party. I’m guessing that infamous lawyer took the case because he already knows this is a breakable pre-nup.
    Even if it weren’t, any lawyer worth a damn can make this divorce so ugly that Tiger will cave in and agree to half just to save his sponsors money. Nike will dump him if it goes much further and the rest will follow.
    You can run and hide like a coward, but Elin’s going to screw better than any of those Hoes.

    Pre-nups are just a contract and if one party violates the terms, then the other party has the right to terminate that contract. Most are in place for “We just don’t get along anymore” type of divorces and not the “Transgessions”, now “Affiars” to this degree.
    I doubt Tiger will worry about giving up an additional $70 millin above the revised pre-nup $75 million. That’s less than one years income. He can’t afford to lose another sponsor and Nike will walk away fast if this gets any uglier.
    Elin needs to sue every woman Tiger slept with for damages, since more courts are allowing cheated on spouse’s to sue the other person. That’s a minimum 12 additional sources of income.

    Girls everywhere offering sex to rich guys trying to generate a better life for themselves and are not concerned with their wives or families. Yea guys should say No, but the offer is in every restaurant, every gas station, every hotel, every car lot. tiger is no different from former president Clinton, Adam, or anyone else who has cheated. He is a man who can be mislead by a decent looking woman with her legs open and a smile (Elin included).
    No disrespect to Elin, but she hasn’t earned a dime of Tigers money, has been with the guy for five years, and has not contributed to the income yet she want’s half and you ladies are alright with that. If Tiger was a computer sales guy we wouldn’t be having this conversation, but since he is a guy with money, we want her to take it and run.
    They can never work out their issues if we keep writing about them

    Ban women from golf club, locker rooms, hotel rooms…, etc. Guys like tiger can’t get into their hotel room without some working girl beating them into the bed. Not saying Tiger is right, but remember hookers are paid.
    We need to face the fact that these women had no respect for Elin, Tiger or their kids, they wanted to sleep with Tiger for whatever it was worth, and if her was a average golfer on the tour Jesper wouldn’t have introduced them, nor would she have given hime the time of day. She is no different except she’s a money chaser with the children

    i’m awesome can you understand the pain of violation, vulnerable, betrayal, humiliation and embarrassment that Elin is feeing right now? Some people in her position have killed or committed suicide. So I feel that she did well if she only beat in down with a golf club.

    Remember me, you read my comments in this blog several times the past few weeks. I said then: “He’s done, kaput, finished” Remember? Well, where are we now at this point? She’s lawyered up! Her rings are off. This bit about the two of them going for a cruise on “Privacy” for what, to make up and resolve this issue? HA, that was a good one. Never did happen. Now, she’s seen in public without the rocks on her fingers! Simple, everyone…it’s the beginning of the end, the divorce proceedings begin, the courtroom is the final stop. Meanwhile, Tiger remains quiet, hiding someplace, won’t come forth to talk and face the media. What’s he afraid of? The Big Bad Wolf? Forget what took place that night regarding the golf club attack, that driveway crash! My prediction: She’s leaving him for good, cannot see them back with each other…EVER. She’ll do well, with settlement…and Tiger will have enough left over as well. As far as his golf game goes…I think he’s done for, at least for the time being. If he does, he won’t be good as he used to be. How can he, with what has become public? And how could he simply appear on any course amongst other pro golfers? What are they thinking? Total embarrassment! With that, my friends, our golf King is done for, Kaput, Finished! Don’t believe me? Be patient and see the results for yourself!
    You simply don’t play the field when you enter marriage. Just remember, none of us ever thought Tiger was a man to do such things! Those of you who knock Elin for this, please…she too was blindsided!

    The fact that you ‘think’ you can throw the stone is proof enough that you’re not “better” than anyone else. Cheating, lying, haughtiness reside in each of us. Whether or not they are always acted on is another matter.
