Elin playing hardball, may go for 'half of Tiger's fortune' in divorce

With Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren seemingly headed down the rapids toward Divorce Falls, word comes that the missus has hired a pretty big gun to handle any potential legal proceedings. Meet celebrity attorney Sorrell Trope, rumored to wear steel underwear and eat his meat raw. Oh, and also it’s said that he can “bust through any pre-nup; he’s done it several times before.”
What’s at stake? From the London Daily Mirror:
Tiger Woods’ devastated wife has called in California’s top celebrity divorce lawyer, say her friends. And Elin Nordegren — rocked by her husband’s string of alleged affairs — could get half the £337.5million he has earned in the five years they have been married.
Holy crap.
Driving the speculation that Elin is looking to pound Tiger into a fine, powdery substance in court are these facts:
* She’s been seen in public twice without her wedding ring, and doesn’t appear to care who knows it.
* She recently purchased a multi-million dollar mansion in her native Sweden in hers and her sister’s name.
* According to the Mirror, Elin will not seek a divorce in Orlando, the couple’s primary residence. Instead, she’s filing the papers in California, which has a no-fault community property law.
It appears that Elin is trying to finish the job she started with a golf club on Thanksgiving night.
Trope, 82, a partner in Californian law firm Trope and Trope, has represented big-name stars including Cary Grant, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage and Britney Spears in a 60-year career.
Under California law the “no-fault divorce”, introduced in 1970, means there is an equal division of assets and property.
This could mean that any pre-nup agreement Elin signed with the golf star will be torn up.
A source said: “Mr Trope is the best divorce lawyer in the business and the divorce laws in California are much more favourable than most other states.
“Elin can fight for half of what her husband has earned since they were married. And Trope can bust through any pre-nup – he’s done it many times before.”
Last night, when asked if he was representing Woods’ wife as her divorce lawyer, Trope replied: “Not right now.”

Jeff, Tiger has at least one home in California. The reason Tiger calls Florida his primary residence is for tax purposes. No State income tax in Florida.

Rumors are flying that Elin is a abuser. Listen, no excuses to cheat and humilate your wife like he has but she should definitely pay a price for hitting him with a phone in the face or hitting him with a golf club. If a woman cheats and the husband hits her face with the phone, he goes to jail…period. Sucks to be her but she is no lady and no class.

Those are rumors and it is not fair to repeat these things as if they are fact. I would say that if she hit him with a golf club, he would have more injuries than a busted lip. Remember the police reports state that Elin told police Tiger had possibly taken some medications and been drinking earlier in the day. He did not take drug tests at the scene or the hospital. Those things would explain a wreck. I’ve never been hit by a golf club but I know it would do more damage than the injuries being described as Tiger’s injuries.

Don’t know why Alex is an idiot … you can’t abuse someone no matter if they cheated on you or not. Sorry. If she did she is wrong. Since there was no disturbance call nothing has to happen. And I highly doubt Tiger would ever bring that up. But I agree with the fact that if she did this she was wrong on that account. I think that’s fair. It’s not always right and wrong. Sometimes there is wrong and wrong.

Tony, you might not like what Alex said, but nothing he said is false. Had he chased her down the driveway with a golfclub and she wrecked the car because of it, he’d STILL be in jail. Getting angry with your spouse give you not right to batter them. Elin will face additional problems in leaving the U.S. with 2 U.S. citizens. Not going to happen. Tiger might be a terrible husband, but that has nothing to do with him being a father. Elin will stay stateside, as no court is going to let her leave the States, thus loosing control (and authority) of the case. Never going to happen.

I doubt the golf club thing happened. His airbag deplyed and that would be enough to get a scarred up face. This guy just thought because he was Tiger he could do anything. Come on folks, checks in the mail, text messages and voice messages on answering machines? Other people said everyone knew but, it was Tiger so it was kept quiet. Well, she is going after him like he deserves. Good for her. She apparently is smart enough to know how to do it. This is too bad for their kids but, with his running around she will probably get custody of them too. It’s too bad. This guy truely had everything but, common sense.

Alex and others…I would not say that throwing a cellphone at someone is abuse, you are just reaching. When men get thrown in jail for abuse, it normally isn’t the first time they have hit a woman – it’s normally the first time they are actually caught. Get a grip. But frankly, I’m glad you don’t know what abuse is…means you haven’t had to endure. Go Elin. Tiger is a scumbag…but I will still root for him to win golf tournaments!! HA

Alex… this lady has class. Her dad is a famous journalist and former guest professor at a US University, her mum is a former goverment minister and current govenor of a province in Sweden, her sister is a lawyer, her brother is a banker, another brother is studying medicine, she herself has studied child psychology… she has if anything class, brains and looks. I like her and thinks the guy whom she worked for as an Aupair(Swedish golfer Parnevik)was right: pity she did not use a driver instead
I feel sorry for everyone involved though, no one is the winner here, all are loosers :/

Don’t understand the whole file in California, yet we reside in Florida thing. Simply owning a home in another state does not make you a resident. A Florida driver license, filing either a state or federal return from Florida, or voter registration in Florida would determine residency of Florida. One more thing, is Elin a US citizen?
As for pre-nup, how can you enter into a legal contract for the terms of a possible divorce and have the pre-nup ruled null and void simply because you file a divorce in California?

I hope she takes him for as much as she possibly can. Tiger is about as low as a person can be. I hope she crushes him in court and he doesn’t win another tourney.
Jack Nicklaus has managed to keep it in his pants and stay with one woman his entire life. The same with Arnold Palmer, until his wife sadly passed a few years ago.
If Tiger’s father were still alive, he’d kick his son’s behind.

Tiger should have let his wife get charged with Domestic violence charge.
Then he would have full custody of the kids, and send her butt packing back to the her country.
She would pay him child support and glad except nothing in exchange for the kids.

Well, seems there are people here who seem to know about the private details of people they never met. It’s likely, very likely, you have no idea who your own man or woman is banging on the side so how are you going to know what Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer did in their lives? It’s only when you get CAUGHT that the cat gets out the bag people.
Tiger Woods is doing what most of America is doing: screwing others on the side WHILE BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP ! If he wasn’t married he could have a hundred different women and it won’t matter. Check out George Clooney – he can have a different gal every few months and even when it’s in the news, its not a big deal. Tiger, you should have stayed single, Boy. That way you can roam as far a jungle as you like…but man, you are one lucky fella !! All that money, talent, and hot ladies to go with it !!

As for all the abuse talk on this subject, it is a scientific and sociological fact that women have a greater propensity for domestic physical violence and are more likely to abuse their children then fathers would. I could easily post the social studies that suggest this, but why bother. It is generally understood that women can “take a swing” at a man and that is simply okay. The reason this is that women typically when violent with men fail to cause injury. Also, men are not typically inclined to report such abuse.
I read a social studie several years ago where a team of social scientist reviewed the arrest reports of several hundred domestic violence cases. In the majority of cases, the men were arrested and convicted. When they went back and interviewed the women, they admitted they threw the first punch.
Herein lies the problem. When a woman swings at a man, she fails to do much damage. When a man hits a woman, he tends to put her in the hospital.

any rich man that gets married is an idiot, plain and simple.
She knew all along he was cheating, and just picked the most opportune moment to strike for half his fortune. She never loved him in the first place. She was praying that he would give in to groupies so that she could take the money and live her life single.
She’s going to divorce him, take the kids and start having sex with every young stud out there that strikes her fancy. When will rich guys learn. don’t get married. It’s a scam. You have everything to lose and she has everything to gain. In fact the reason she was abusive was to trigger some rebellousness in Tiger. She was hoping he would get mad and cheat. She’s a great actress as every hot thing out there that stalks rich guys is.
The trap was set and Tiger fell right into it.
