Oh no! Patriots mascot nabbed in prostitution sting

Dec 11, 2009, 7:00 PM EDT

AFC Wild Card Playoff Game - New York Jets vs New England Patriots - January 7, 2007

I don’t know how to say this so I’m just going to say it; Pat the Patriot, beloved mascot of the New England Patriots and inspiration to Boston-area children since 1960, has been arrested in a prostitution sting. But it gets worse: Evidently Pat was caught answering a naughty ad on Craigslist. Placed by a policeman in Rhode Island.
Rumor has it that local prostitutes called Pat by his other nickname, “The Revolutionary Minuteman.” They did not mean it as a compliment.

Law enforcement sources told NBC 10 one of the johns who tried to pay for sex with a prostitute was 47-year-old Robert Sormanti of Warwick. He is one of several people who plays the Pat the Patriot mascot.

“The Pat Patriot mascot costume is worn by multiple people, each of whom are held responsible and accountable for their actions. The individual in question has been suspended. The mascot responsibilities will continue to be fulfilled by others,” said a statement from the team.

Sormanti was one of eight johns arrested in the sting, and is one of several people who play Pat the Patriot. Who knows precisely what’s been going on in that costume since he’s occupied it?
As if a team mascot doesn’t have it bad enough; now the other people who wear the Pat costume are going to have to hear it from drunken Boston fans for the rest of eternity. Two more regular-season home games, including Sunday vs. Carolina. Get your signs ready.

Back in the 80″s all the women complained they want me to show their feelings,(YEA RIGHT) then they said oh there wimps, can you imagine why so many men are gay,LOL My prefereance is A gal from Europe or another country, at least the will take care of their men. And this garbage is news?????????????????

  5. Jim - Dec 12, 2009 at 12:51 PM

Uh, the mistake was intentional, hairy, but clearly too subtle for you. The poster wrote “More evidence that we don’t like in a free country.” See, he meant to say “LIVE in a free country” but wrote “like” so I took the word “like” and changed it to “live.”
Geez, they always get my jokes at the Funk and Wagnalls blog.

Leave the Fox Network out of this!

  7. Laces-Out!!! - Dec 12, 2009 at 1:02 PM

At least someone is scoring in the red zone the last few weeks.
However I do agree that this story is a bit sarcastic and certainly the result of a slow “news” day.

He’s so damn ugly he has to wear a mask!

  9. john akre - Dec 12, 2009 at 1:12 PM

    the question raised::::
How can any person be suspended from work unless,
he has be found guilty of a crime……………
and the media’s cry for bad taste in rushing out a story…..
is part of the problem thats this country is going through.
he should be suing the paper, for slander and pain and suffering
casing pain with his good name……….

WHO GIVES A FLYING “F” ABOUT THIS NONSENSE

  11. willmose - Dec 12, 2009 at 1:32 PM

As a good Christian, I believe in original sin, so none of us are innocent not even a new born, we are all sinners. Bastard is not a terrible name. According to dictionary.com bastard is “a person born of unmarried parents; an illegitimate child”. That was the usage I was using as it is the most common usage of the word. In slang, a bastard is “a vicious, despicable, or thoroughly disliked person”. In think that slang definition is not true for either the star QB or the mother of his child. BTW, some of most influental people in history have been bastards (of both kinds).

  15. Tina - Dec 12, 2009 at 4:58 PM

It’s kinda hard to “frame” someone when it comes to being busted for prostitution. I’m pretty sure the charges are legit…

  16. Jac - Dec 13, 2009 at 12:45 AM

Some men need sex because it feels good??? So why then do other men need sex? everyone needs or wants sex because it feels good! you dope

  18. Crackle n Pop - Dec 13, 2009 at 1:00 AM

Why is this an issue? Since when are football mascots role models for anyone? No one gives a rat ass who is under the disguise.

  19. Terry - Dec 13, 2009 at 3:55 AM

It’s Rhode Islands fault. Rhode Island should not have made it a crime to have Prostitution inside a building! It’s better than doing it in a car or on a motorcylce!

  20. majak - Dec 13, 2009 at 9:52 AM

I don’t give a rat’s behind on any think that is done in the New England area…..

  21. Mariko Passion - Dec 13, 2009 at 3:05 PM

Maybe now some people will understand that paying for sex is part of the very fabric of America’s favorite past times…

  22. Richard - Dec 13, 2009 at 9:28 PM

It seems that being on time is an issue with this organization.
Are they still using convicts to plow the snow off the field?

It’s unfortunate for the Patriots that this article is newsworthy only because of the occupation of this “gentlemen”. Notice the other 7 “johns” and where they work weren’t mentioned. I think comments like, “Pat the Patriot, beloved mascot of the New England Patriots and inspiration to Boston-area children since 1960, has been arrested in a prostitution sting.” and “Who knows precisely what’s been going on in that costume since he’s occupied it?” are irresponsible because everyone knows it wasn’t PAT that was arrested but one of the character performers. That’s what the article should be about, the person who made the decision, not the Character who was affected by it. Being in sports, I know how hard it is to protect your brand and this publicity is not something I would wish on any time whether I was a fan of them or not.

I wasn’t looking for your website, but came across it by mistake. Just thought I’d tell you great posting.
