Sales skyrocket for book seen in Tiger's wrecked SUV

Dec 4, 2009, 1:30 PM EDT

Want to know how crazy this is getting? Here’s how crazy. An out-of-print book that was photographed by police in the back seat of Tiger Woods’ crashed Escalade on Friday morning (pictured) is now surging in Amazon.com sales, jumping ahead more than 300,000 spots as of today. The book, Get a Grip on Physics, was published in 1999 and was supposed to be the first of a series. But those plans were canceled due to poor sales. Well, it’s a hot item now.
The author, British scientist John Gribbin, is probably best known for predicting that earthquakes would wipe out Los Angeles in 1982. Finally, something works out for the guy.
The Guardian online caught up with Gribbin on Thursday. Video following the jump.

This incidental role in Woods’s domestic drama has been enough to create a rush to get hold of the book, with the title’s sales rank on Amazon.com jumping from 396,224 earlier in the week to a high spotted yesterday by the Wall Street Journal of 2,268.

Speaking in a break between lectures this morning, the author, John Gribbin, said he was “delighted that anybody’s reading my books. I just wish it was one that’s still in print.”

“It’s not a book you sit down and read from cover to cover,” said Gribbin, “you can dip in and out of it. Tiger Woods is absolutely my target audience. He’s busy, hasn’t got a lot of time, but wants to catch up on what’s happening in physics.”

I’d say physics caught up with Woods, with a vengeance. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods-related domain names are currently on sale on eBay, as you knew they would be. Still available for the low price of $1 million are TigerWoodsDomesticViolence.com, and TigerWoodsAffairs.com. Heavens.

    I out-drove Tiger Woods.

Here we go again, the leave tiger alone and he did nothing worse than many of us have crowd?? Are you people insane? Do you have armies of people working for you weather is Camp Tiger or his sponsors who pay him 10′s of millions and work their butts off so he can be all he can be. These people depend on him for their salaries to support their own families and work damn hard doing it. Not to mention his own family and friends.
What’s he do? He sits home on a rare visit during Thanksgiving with his family, mother, and stepmother and is texting his mistresses while he should be spending time with his family. That’s very cold, and very dumb. It’s beyond acceptable, way beyond. He let down 100′s of people directly linked to him, his race and his image.
Remember his wife caught him and he tried several attempts to cover it up lying. Then drove under the influence, crashed 2-3 times while trying to drive, was mysteriously bloodied, brought to hospital and did not tell the truth. other than that it wasn’t all so bad…Now he’s still talking with his mistresses trying to undo what he worked so hard to create all along. His camp is rife with yes men helping him deceive his family.
Hello people? He signed up for this image let’s hope he doesn’t try to keep it, yet we now he’ll try $$$$

I have followed Tiger’s career since he was first on Mike Douglas and admired him…what do parents tell their little ones about this? How ridiculous is this anyway? What is wrong with him? He has a beautiful wife and family. *&^%$#)((*&&5643#@$%^%$%#$!#@$@#%$^

  13. Sandy - Dec 4, 2009 at 11:02 PM

What do Tiger Woods and baby harp seals have in common?
They’re both in danger of being clubbed to death by a Norwegian.
( And NO, that is no racist, unless, perhaps you’re Norwegian…)

  14. TC00 - Dec 4, 2009 at 11:54 PM

He has two kids……where are the carseats?

  15. GB - Dec 5, 2009 at 12:04 AM

Hey, I’m a fairly sucessful business man and I married a extremely wonderful Norwegian gal in 1996. I cheated on her and was punished by losing her love. Just admit your stupid judgement and suffer the consequences.

He was probably learning about inertia… an object in motion tends to stay in motion until it runs into a tree.

  18. doodoolemonque - Dec 5, 2009 at 12:32 AM

Men and women makes choices. He did not accidentally fall on top of these women, causing his penis to penetrate them, despite his best effort to prevent it. He knew all along he was making a decision to violate his wedding vows and cheat on his wife. He did not set out to monopolize the time of a woman, take her out, buy her drinks and not have the specific intention of cheating. Once found out, he choose to continue to do the wrong thing. He clearly made every attempt to cover his tracks and to continue the deceit. Bill Clinton, John Profumo and others tried this, and the results are the stuff of history books. One would think that a Stanford education would have touched on several of these, perhaps even with the express purpose of using them as teaching tools. Tiger Woods has disgraced himself, the memory of his father and publicly humiliated his wife. Since he is a public figure, the ignominy of choosing cheap broads over their mother, will be a part of his children’s legacy, forever. The greatest gift a man can give his children is to love their mother. Congratulations, Tiger Woods. Apparently the greatest gift you have to give your children is to teach them that when you are caught being a liar and a cheat, try working harder at lying and cheating.
I don’t blame people for being interested. It is a natural phenomenon. What bothers me about the reactions I read here and elsewhere, is when people say or write, “Gee, he had it all. Millions of dollars and a beautiful wife.” This implicitly suggests that men with unattractive wives are somehow justified in cheating on them. A man who cheats, does so due to his own shortcomings, not that of his mate. The same is true of women who cheat on us. If you aren’t grown up enough to marry and be true to your vows, don’t marry. Tiger Woods is clearly an immature man who is incapable of adult behavior in a relationship.

I’m glad the irony of finding a physics book in a crashed car wasn’t lost on everyone…

Actually, “cant” is spelled can’t. Nice try though.

You can just see a blue box of condoms for women under the front seat..so what does that mean for condom sales?

  25. Rods - Dec 5, 2009 at 1:52 AM

Hey, what’s the use of having millions and fame but you cannot enjoy them. It’s just natural for someone his age to transgress. Heck, do you know what your local parish priest had done?
