Your New York Yankees are world champions of stick and ball. So I guess the person I feel most sorry for, besides Cole Hamels, was the guy who was presented Series tickets by David Letterman during Tuesday’s taping of The Late Show. Problem: They were tickets for Game 7. Oh well. Some things are not meant to be.
As I write this it’s a little too early to assess the celebration damage inflicted on New York City and surrounding areas, although Yankee fans were spotted climbing on various things. What is it about athletic victories that make humans want to scale tall objects? When will we learn that the higher we climb, the further the inevitable fall? Hamels and the Phillies are feeling that today.
Of course, better to have climbed atop a taxi and lost, than to have never climbed at all.
